January to March

Cloudy winter skies bring stunning sunsets, as seen from San Antonio

In the first three months of the year, the weather is at its coolest: think average daytime temperatures of 16-17 degrees Centigrade and nighttime ones of around 8 - 11. When it comes to sunshine, there’s around five hours per day - several times the amount in northern Europe and the UK - making it ideal for hiking and cycling.

January is a good time for enjoying local events, the island’s splendid scenery and eating out, especially on weekends.

San Antonio's annual Flower Power party brightens up January, while St. Valentine's Day will appeal to lovers seeking a romantic break by the Med. Then, in late February, it's carnival time when the main towns have colourful street displays of music and dance, imbued with the island’s inimitable spirit.

March is the month for foodies with “Pintxa San Antonio” a popular annual event in which participating bars in the island’s second-largest town offer signature tapas plus drinks at affordable prices for the ultimate end-of-winter warmer.

Throughout this time of year, Ibiza’s countryside comes alive, festooned in a colourful display of wildflowers including wild orchids, poppies, iris and gladiolus. That goes for trees, too, especially oranges and lemons and the stunning white/pink almond trees that are in bloom now.

April

IMS Grand Finale lights up the citadel Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town and the clubs start opening

As the weather warms up, the first signs of the season’s imminent arrival appear. Many restaurants and beach clubs that have stayed shut for the low-season start to open. There are noticeably more people on the streets and though the sea is still bracing, sunbathers venture on to the beaches.

Depending on the year, Easter usually takes place in April, too. There are brightly coloured and costumed traditional religious processions in the main towns. It’s a great time to come to Ibiza for mild weather and reasonably priced accommodation; and many flight companies already start with direct flights around Easter.

At the end of April, the International Music Summit (IMS) signals the start to the clubbing season. Many music industry bigwigs, DJs and keynote speakers will converge on the island to discuss matters affecting the world of electronic music in an open forum, finishing with a big party, the IMS Grand Finale on the bulwark of the fortified old town Dalt Vila.

On the same weekend, several of the world-renowned clubs already have their Opening Parties - many clubbers come to the island especially for these. The atmosphere at the start of the Ibiza clubbing summer is something very special. Find all dates in our party calendar.

May

Ibiza goes medieval in May

By now, the temperatures are approaching the mid-20s and the sunbeds are out in anticipation of summer. Early May is an optimal time to visit Ibiza. It's the official start of the summer season and all hotels are now open for business.

Ibiza's Medieval Fair is very popular with holidaymakers and residents alike. It’s a perfect outing for all the family.

Beginning of May the rest of the island clubs will have their opening parties, continuing with a pre-season programme and already the first residencies.

By now, there’s plenty going on in the resorts, from San Antonio's Sunset Strip to Ibiza Town's port and Santa Eulalia's seafront promenade.

June

Gay Pride Week: a bold celebration of Ibiza's famed inclusivity

If you want the best of both worlds: early summer temperatures and plenty of things to do, June is the month to come to Ibiza. By mid-month, all the major weekly party nights have kicked off in the clubs. Come now for fewer people and cheaper hotels.

It's also time for Ibiza Gay Pride and the famous parade and port party that accompanies it. Booking accommodation and car hire in advance is essential; you might save money too if you book well ahead.

All the resorts now come into their own and holidaymakers take to the streets, beaches and bars. All around, you can feel Ibiza’s unique summer vibe on the rise.

Chartering a boat, a perfect plan in the hot summer months on Ibiza

Temperatures now hit 30℃, and the season is in full swing, with packed night clubs, busy roads and crammed beaches. Nightlife - in all its varieties - is booming.

For those who are not followers of Electronic Dance Music, there are many other things to do. The island’s famed hippy markets are sure to be a hit with the whole family.

Easy ways to discover the island abound: Hire a car or scooter or have experienced guides show you around. Chartering a boat or taking boat trips in Ibiza’s fabulous waters are an excellent way to discover Ibiza's coast and beaches. And don’t forget about the ultimate daytrip to the paradise sister island Formentera.

August

Serious sunbathing on Playa d'en Bossa beach

The busiest month of the year, August has parties galore, beach clubs and beach bars to chill in, and water activities to dive into. Music fills the air and it's hot - yes, this really is the time to hit the beach, take frequent dips in the sea, and/or spend time by the pool.

School's out for summer and the family resorts like Santa Eulalia, Portinatx and Cala Llonga make the perfect playground. For adult fun, dine out in Ibiza Town's walled citadel or head to the pre-club bars in the marina or on Playa d'en Bossa's main strip. Enjoy the balmy nights with their promise of nighttime adventures.

September

For many clubbers, September is their favourite month as there are plenty of parties with top promoters and DJs still, but the dancefloors are less packed. After the heat of the previous two months, it’s a relief that temperatures go down.

Throughout the month, it’s a great time for aquatic activities of any kind as the sea is still warm.

Towards the end of September, the clubbing season reaches its peak as the weekly club parties conclude with their closing events.

October

Cooler temperatures, ideal for hiking to scenic spots

The final month of the season, October is - for many who know the White Isle - the best time to visit. The weather is ideal, with sunny days, clear skies, and mild temperatures.

There are many cultural activities to enjoy, such as the annual Jazz Festival, and for sportspeople, yogis and wellness enthusiasts and those seeking a quiet break, it hits the sweet spot as the island is less crowded and everything is still open. With warm waters and empty beaches, the Mediterranean beckons.

Clubbers take note: the clubs hold their closing parties up until around the middle of the month. Ibiza’s Halloween parties - right at the end of October - are the unofficial end to the clubbing season.

November - December

The beautiful sunset reflected in the salt lakes

When November arrives, the island quietens down and many establishments close. The weather is cooler, especially at nights, so come prepared, but daytime temperatures - in the sun - are often well into the 20s. It’s the moment to explore the island in all its off-season glory.

As many restaurants stay open over the winter, this period is a treat for foodies wishing to indulge in the island’s booming gastro scene. Local culinary events such as the Restaurat in San Antonio are further enticements.

Some major European cities have direct flights, though you can also come via Barcelona or Palma de Mallorca, maybe stopping there for a night on the way. Several hotels are open all year and villas can be rented if you want a laidback, late-year getaway with friends.

Many sunny days and incredible sunsets can be had during these months and temperatures are nicely warm up to the end of the year - not what you might be used to if from northerly climes. You'll need to take a jacket and a couple of jumpers for when evening falls or if you get the odd day without sunshine.

At Christmas time, there are markets, pretty Christmas lights and festive dinners to enjoy while - on the 31st - a plethora of spectacular New Year's Eve parties await. Why not tempt yourself with a winter trip by reading our guide to New Year clubbing?

Beyond its nightlife, Ibiza is home to a vibrant cultural scene that ranges from live concerts of everything from Rock and Blues to Jazz and Classical music as well as performances of theatre and ballet by internationally acclaimed artists. Then there are festivals of interactive and modern art, and fashion.
