Weather, events and what to wear on Ibiza in May

May is the official beginning of the summer season when all the hotels, restaurants and clubs open.

May marks the real start of the summer season in Ibiza. This is the month when all the hotels and restaurants open their doors, direct flights increase from many European destinations and sun-loungers are set out on the beaches to enjoy the beautifully warm days. Here, first holidaymakers make the most of the quieter sands, enjoying a dip in the island's crystal-clear waters - although some may find it quite refreshing, with water temperatures ranging from 18 to 21 degrees Celsius.

At the beginning of May, there may be some rainfall. However, this only means that the island remains lush and green, with colourful flowers blooming in the fields.

With the summer solstice on 21 June, the sun is as high in the sky as it is in late July to mid-August. It is easy to forget this, as the air is much crisper at this time than in midsummer, so make sure to remember your sunscreen. These long days are beautifully fresh and warm, culminating in stunning sunsets around 21:00.

Events

Most of the island's large clubs open their doors at the end of April or the beginning of May. Their opening parties are hugely popular with clubbers from around the globe. With an infectious, happy vibe, these events are a great way to celebrate the beginning of the new clubbing season. Find all dates in our party calendar.

In the weeks around the first Sunday in May, Santa Eulalia celebrates its May festivities, with a diverse programme of events, exhibitions and activities for the whole family.

On the second weekend in May, the Medieval Festival takes over the old town of Ibiza Town, including the walled citadel Dalt Vila, all the way up to the cathedral. Full of atmosphere, the processions, stalls selling handmade items, and live demonstrations of long-forgotten crafts all combine to create a great weekend.
