In May, the Ibiza summer season really begins: all the hotels and restaurants are open, there are direct flights from many European destinations, sun-loungers come out on the beaches, and the first holidaymakers enjoy a dip in the island's crystal-clear waters.
At the beginning of May, there is often some rain. But that also means that the island is still beautifully green, and colourful flowers bloom in the fields.
With the solstice on June 21st, the sun is as high in the sky as in late July to mid-August. It is easy to forget that as the air is fresher than in midsummer. Therefore, you have an increased risk of sunburn - please always apply sunscreen. This also means long days as the sun sets around 21:00.
Events
Most of the island's large clubs open their doors at the end of April or beginning of May. Their opening parties are hugely popular with clubbers from around the globe. With an infectious, happy vibe, these events are a great way to celebrate the beginning of the new clubbing season. Find all dates in our party calendar.
On the second weekend in May, the Medieval Festival takes over the old walled citadel of Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town. Full of atmosphere, the processions, stalls selling handmade items and live demonstrations of long-forgotten crafts all combine to create a great weekend.
