If you have never been to Ibiza and want to get the best out of it, our Ibiza Virgins' Guides give you the complete lowdown on all kinds of subjects, from where to shop to how to club.

Ibiza is a stunning Mediterranean island, part of the Spanish Balearic Islands, which include Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera, Ibiza's neighbouring little sister island. Ibiza and Formentera together form the Pitiusan Islands – the pine-covered islands. Ibiza is known for its natural beauty with many amazing beaches and its incredible, world-famous nightlife.

It is just a two- to three-hour flight from most European airports, from where the majority of visitors come from. The island also attracts people from all over the world with many visitors from the United States and Australia, for example.

The main holiday season runs from the beginning of May to the end of October. November to April is the low season, when most hotels and many restaurants are closed.

However, Christmas and New Year's Eve see more and more holidaymakers coming to the island to enjoy the lovely winter sun. More and more hotels and restaurants are opening their doors as early as Easter, and since the big clubs celebrate their openings at the end of April, this month has become a kind of pre-season.

Ibiza has a very mild climate and mostly sunny weather. July and August are the hottest months, when temperatures go above 30 degrees Celsius. It is also when the island is at its busiest. In winter daytime temperatures go down to around 15 degrees Celsius.

The major resorts are Playa d'en Bossa, San Antonio, Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia with a wide choice of hotels. There are also many small resorts in between, as well as charming white villages and lots of wide open countryside where you can stay in private holiday villas.

Ibiza is also a paradise for all who like to dine out. Restaurants with a wide choice of cuisines, often set in the most stunning locations, make for the most lovely holiday memories. And besides beach life and clubbing there are fantastic excursions, sports and other things to do to keep you entertained throughout the day.
