While taxis, buses, and your own two feet offer an excellent way of exploring the island, there is another option that should be considered a contender: the Ibiza water taxi. Offering views of the stunning coastline and twinkling city lights, you can travel easily between locations, as jet skis and super yachts race alongside.
Cheap, efficient, and offering some of the most picturesque views of any island transport option, water taxis are a fantastic way to reach nearby beaches and resorts, and at a very reasonable price.
Below we share the options for the island's water-fuelled travel experiences; it’s important to note that timetables may alter throughout the season, so please check online and at the kiosks before travelling.
Connecting San Antonio Town and San Antonio Bay
Thanks to the many fantastic coves and beaches around the bay of San Antonio, there is a regular service of small ferries to glide you effortlessly between them and San Antonio Town. These depart from the port in San Antonio, and can be easily recognised by the small kiosks which line the waterfront.
This isn’t just a one-way service from the town; you can of course begin your journey from each of the beach jetties listed below.
- Between San Antonio and S'Estanyol beaches, right next to hotels Mar Amantis and Vibra San Remo.
- Between San Antonio and Playa Xinxo, just next to Hotel Amare and Playa Bella.
- Between San Antonio and Playa Pinet (Reggae Beach), near INNSiDE by Melia.
- Between San Antonio and Port d’es Torrent beach, near Sirenis Seaview Country Club and Tui Blue Aura.
Different companies operate each route. Therefore, when you approach the portside kiosk, they will ask which beach or hotel you need to be dropped near, and suggest the best service for you to catch.
Each trip is reasonably priced (you buy your ticket on the boat) and takes around 10-20 minutes. The schedule is usually every 30-60 minutes, from wherever you embark on your journey. Please check the cabins and jetties for information.
Connecting San Antonio, Cala Bassa and Cala Conta beaches
If you’d like to explore the beaches slightly further around the west coast, rest assured as the idyllic sands and crystal waters of Cala Bassa and Cala Conta are within easy reach.
Departing from San Antonio each morning, there are three sailings between 10:30 and 14:00, returning from the beach at intermittent times throughout the afternoon. You can purchase your ticket at the Cruceros Portmany booth at San Antonio port.
If you’d prefer to explore more than one beach in a day, with refreshments and the opportunity to snorkel and paddle board, then Beach Hop Cruise and Capitan Nemo offer different options for exploring Cala Conta, Cala Bassa and Cala Salada in one day.
Connecting Ibiza Town, Marina Botafoc and Talamanca beach
If you like your journey to come alongside stunning views of the city’s citadel, Dalt Vila, and the luxurious marina, then this is the service for you. It not only connects Ibiza Town (you’ll spot the wooden cabin at the port) with the restaurants and shops of Ibiza Marina, but also with Talamanca beach, which is just a few minutes' walk from the stop in Marina Botafoc.
Operated by City Boat Ibiza, this regular service runs roughly every 30 minutes, and you can purchase your ticket at the booth or on the boat.
Connecting Ibiza Town and Playa d’en Bossa
City Boat Ibiza also runs a service that connects its neighbouring coastline, at the top end of Playa D’en Bossa - near to the Hotel Torre del Mar. The service runs once an hour, from mid-morning until late into the night.
Connecting Santa Eulalia to east coast beaches, Punta Arabí Hippy Market and Formentera
Santa Eulalia Ferry offers a fantastic service linking the beaches and resorts of Es Caná, Cala Pada, Santa Eulalia and Cala Llonga. With an open-top deck, passengers can enjoy beautiful views of the coastline as they glide between each stop. The service is particularly popular on a Wednesday, when it connects to Punta Arabí Hippy Market in Es Caná.
They are also the only provider to link the east coast (Es Caná, Cala Pada, Santa Eulalia and Cala Llonga) with Formentera, offering daily trips between May and October, which take around 60-70 minutes, depending on your pick-up point.
Connecting Ibiza and Formentera
Just a short trip across the Mediterranean, Formentera is Ibiza’s stunning little sister island whose easy reach makes it ideal for a day trip to explore its beauty.
A popular option is the low-cost Aquabus, which departs from Ibiza Town port regularly throughout the day and takes around 30-40 minutes. It is best to pre-book, especially in high season.
A slightly more glamorous option is to hire your own private charter to Formentera, which will whisk you (and up to four friends) across the water at a time to suit your schedule. The other benefit is that you can select where on Formentera you wish to be whisked to, which is ideal for smooth sailing directly to restaurants and beaches.
