Weather, events and what to wear in Ibiza in July

Hot sunny days with beautiful blue skies - summer has truly arrived! July sees the fiesta of the Virgen del Carmen with boat processions held in several of the islands' ports.

July is high summer on Ibiza, so on some days daytime temperatures may reach the mid-30s degrees Celsius. The skies are clear and blue, and the heat and humidity are more manageable than in August. July really is the perfect time to visit the island if you love the beach and also want to experience it in full action.

This month, a very special sound marks the summer soundtrack of the island - the chirping of cicadas. Well camouflaged, they sit on the trunks of the pine trees and vibrate small plates with special muscles - and this can get really loud, reaching more than 60 decibels.

July is the driest month in Ibiza, although the occasional thunderstorm may occur. The sea temperature is around 26 degrees, making it ideal for water sports, snorkelling and sunbathing.

This is also the month that the marina of Ibiza town becomes a bustling hive, as the owners of sumptuous yachts moor up for their summer holidays. It's a great place to go celebrity spotting, or you could join them out on the crystal clear Mediterranean yourself.

Events

Festivities in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of mariners, also take place in July. They are marked by religious processions and wreath-laying on the sea in Ibiza Town, San Antonio, Es Cubells, Portinatx and Formentera. Keep an eye out for the flotilla of boats that leave the harbour in the early evening to accompany the priest who does the blessing.

In the days around its Patron Saint day on 10 July, the popular resort Es Caná celebrates its annual fiesta, with a diverse programme of activities, concerts and events for the whole family, locals and holidaymakers alike.

The clubbing season is in full swing: check the party calendar to see when your favourite DJ is playing. Enjoy open-air clubbing on hot summer days or cool down in the air-conditioned clubs at night.
