Have you ever put in a right shift at work, only for somebody else - maybe a colleague or supervisor - to take all the credit?
Well, it happens to DJs too, as observed at RESISTANCE last month.
That's not to take anything away from Adam Beyer, the man who stood to benefit from this case in point. He was presented with an opportunity and went with it, as well he might. But the unsung hero - the man who did the initial heavy-lifting, that fell to Joris Voorn...
Few DJs on the international circuit have the broad range of Joris Voorn. Capable of mixing it up, he adapts his sound to the crowd, setting, mood and time slot. That should be a basic requirement of all DJs at his level, and yet many seem unable or unwilling to show this flexibility.
As we entered the Terrace, the master craftsman was again challenging our expectations on what he can deliver (anybody questioning his versatility needs to check out his recent BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix while it's still available to stream).

Unlike his Tech-heavy ANTS sets, for example, where he leans into his Rejected output, this tapped much more into the sound of his Spectrum imprint. It was the kind of chunky Tech House littered with rap vocals that has become en vogue. Think Solomun's current repertoire, but on steroids. Music came from Tigerblind, Ozbek, SCRIPT and Joris himself.
The foundations had been laid, and Beyer must have felt like the assist was Christmas come early.
All he had to do was ride the wave of momentum that swept across the dancefloor. Ever the professional, he did exactly that, launching immediately into Genesi's Right Now. The track has been his go-to opener this summer and for good reason.
Irrespective of Beyer's own proclivities, it was a natural successor to Voorn's own set. A more seamless transition, not one person present could have hoped for.
Given how often they find themselves sharing line-ups, we're sure it won't be too long until Adam can return the favour (if he hasn't already!)
Two of the industry's best one after the other, it was always likely to give the dancefloor a moment to savour. The chances of these "moments" simply multiply when it comes to parties like RESISTANCE, where talent is stacked on talent in both rooms.

It's like fantasy football, but for DJs and (to further the analogy) like an oligarch has just bought your team as a vanity project and injected eye-watering amounts of cash. Man, had we missed RESISTANCE, its programming and booking clout.
Each week has been a gold mine during its return season to Ibiza.
We've been treated to these kinds of line-ups on every occasion this summer - and there's still further treats to come.

Head below and secure your ticket to the closing party on 17 September, where Beyer goes back-to-back-to-back with ARTBAT and Vintage Culture. Mind Against, Massano, Chris Avantgarde, Colyn, Olympe and Kitty Amor complete the dynamite bill. It's gonna be one for the books.
