EP review: Gottwax 002

An energising, eclectic soundtrack ready-made for the summer

Artist: Various
EP: Gott002
Label: Gottwax
Release date: 18/04/15

Gottwood Festival has been a roaring success for over five years now, throwing some of the most memorable and refreshing electronic music events. The record label, Gottwax, evolved only last year as the team decided to venture towards producing, having mastered the ingredients of exhibiting our favourite electronic artists only too well. With contributions from Jascha Hagen, Luv Jam, Cottam and Ruf Dug - who are also lined up for this year's event - this quirky production sets the tone for the summer festival period with hopefully many more impressive releases to come.

The second addition to the Gottwax collection, Got002 certainly has a colourful blend of sound, simply oozing festival vibes from all angles. Launched with a subdued, down tempo track before Luv Jam's Oiiiiii steals the limelight with an instantly addictive rhythm maxing out the wonked out house style. The rich sound and elastic grooves gives this the potential to be a classic well after the summer buzz dies down.

Cottam's Facing it Head On rounds up the EP perfectly with an edgy, tribal tone, crafted with funky textures and flurries of hi-hats; the organic sound embedded throughout all four tracks, makes the anticipation for this year's event all the more exciting. This dynamic EP is infused with soul, disco and funk, a perfect pre-festival release keeping with the Gottwood tradition and providing us with the ideal fusion of fun and quality.
