Things to do this month on Ibiza | April 2023

With a plethora of sporting, cultural and culinary events, beach club and restaurant openings, April is shaping up to be an action-packed month on the White Island.

April normally sees Ibiza emerge into the spring brimming with great activities, and this year is no exception. As the island prepares for the coming season, it offers something for everyone with an absolute abundance of events guaranteed to get you out and about in the spring sunshine. Read on to get Ibiza Spotlight’s take on the best Ibiza and Formentera have to offer this month.

READY, STEADY, GO

1 April

With 12 km, 20 km and 42 km races, runners of all levels will come together to take part in the sixth edition of the Ibiza Marathon. Attended by 1000s of spectators and followed by around half a million people online, this sparkling event – which boasts a sunset finish by the sea – is one of the year’s sporting highlights on Ibiza.

6-8 April

Among Spain's most popular offshore sailing regattas, the classic race known as La Ruta de la Sal (the Salt Route) sees boats depart for the port of San Antonio from two departure points on the mainland: Barcelona and Denia. This year’s race – including special events and activities, exhibits, stalls and live music – promises to be a thriller! Bring the whole family down to the port for the gripping finale!

7-9 April

Now in its 22nd edition, the demanding mountain bike trial event Vuelta a Ibiza MTB Scott by Shimano returns to Ibiza. Divided into three phases and counting on the presence of top international trial cyclists, the race features stunning views, (literally) breathtaking climbs and gorgeous countryside trails. An outstanding event for fans of MTB and onlookers alike.

15-16 April

Ibiza’s beautiful sister island, Formentera, plays host to the All Round Trail 2023. This year, the two main races, a 72 km one along the coast and the 41 km Half Round Formentera Trail are accompanied the following day by a novelty event: a 10 km popular race around s'Estany Pudent. Definitely one for both running enthusiasts and spectators!

16 April

Organised by San Antonio Town Hall, the low season’s final popular Nordic walking excursion takes place this Sunday. Grab your walking pole or use one of the ones provided and take advantage of this chance to exercise and appreciate Ibiza’s natural beauty before the arrival of the summer heat.

22 APRIL

San José municipality concludes its winter season of Nordic walking excursions with this low-level event starting out from Can Guerxo Sports Center. On the same day, a medium-level hike takes place on Formentera. Enjoy these opportunities to admire the islands’ landscapes in their spring splendour. Please note prior registration is required. 

22 April

Incorporating some of the island’s most picturesque and iconic spots, The Ibiza Half Marathon is a 21 km route starting from San José and ending in Ibiza Town. The route takes in some spectacular scenery along the island’s south coast. Additional fun is provided in the form of musical performances and sports demonstrations.

22 April

The second edition of the Diario de Ibiza Golf Tournament will be held at Golf Ibiza on Saturday 22 April.

Open to players of all handicaps, it will include prizes for a whole range of categories. This special event even comes with welcome packs for all players, cocktails, special prizes and a raffle. Registration is required!

22-23 April

Vuelta a Formentera BTT, a two-stage, 72 km trail biking event celebrates its eighth edition this year. A non-federated race open to all-comers, this year’s competition features two novelties that show increasing environmental awareness: the chance to take part on an eBike and a special APP to mark out the route - one for all lovers of trail biking.

23 April

Held at glamorous Six Senses Ibiza, located in the spectacular setting Cala Xarraca, in the municipality of San Juan, the II Triathlon of Senses @Six Senses Ibiza is a true mental and physical challenge. Featuring three distances, Olympic, Sprint and Supersprint, it also includes Junior, U23 and Age Group categories. 

What makes the triathlon so different is the pre-event personalized warm-up yoga and meditation session, followed by the special wind-down yoga practice and self-appreciation meditation. This distinctive event will come to a close with an energising celebration

29 April to 7 May 

Spanning the end of the month and the first week of May, Multisport Triathlon World Championship places Ibiza in the top rank of the world’s triathlon venues. Triathletes from around the globe will descend on the island for 10 days of first-class athletic achievement. The event has different categories: Elite, Under-23, Junior, Age Group, Open and Paratriathlon. 

Come along to this superb sporting event to cheer on all the participants!

6 April

As a counterpoint to all the sporting feats above, what could be better than a gentle, magical sunset & full moon rise walk? Join in this easy 3-4 km walk with star lady Etienne, who shares a wealth of fascinating night sky facts en route.


GASTRONOMIC HIGHLIGHTS

31 march & 6 April

Don’t miss out on the last days of San Antonio’s much-loved Pintxa food festival.

With top-notch food, affordable prices and the chance to socialise with friends and meet people, this annual competition – in which around 20 local culinary hotspots take part – is a must!

31 March to 2 April

To celebrate Nobu Ibiza Bay's opening and coinciding with Easter, the weekend of 31 March, 1 and 2 April they've organised an outstanding four hands Omakase dinner experience. Your chance to live one of the most exclusive dining experiences on the island, a 7-course omakase dinner. Reservation is highly recommended.  

WEEKENDS IN APRIL

Fun & Trucks brings together delicious food, live music, a market, and kids’ activities at three separate venues throughout the month. Island locations include San Antonio - every Saturday - San Antonio Bay - @Caló de s'Oli, beside Kumharas - second Sunday of the month - and Jesús - near Talamanca – on the first Sunday of the month.

BIG STYLE OPENINGS AND CELEBRATIONS

1 April

Famed beach club Nassau celebrates its 15th anniversary and the opening of another illustrious season. Expect amazing cuisine, top sounds and lots of surprises!

5 April

Rio Ibiza reopens with a party you won’t want to miss. With free entry and an eclectic mix of Funk, Disco, Dance, R&B and Rock all night long, this promises to be a great night out for fans of the San Antonio club. 

7 April

Tanit Beach Ibiza welcomes in the season with its customary shindig. Naturally, feel-good collective Melon Bomb will be there with their unique approach to funk and disco-infused house. 

Fine food, cool vibes, comfy sunbeds and dazzling sea views await.

20 April

Legendary Playa d'en Bossa beach club Beachouse Ibiza welcomes its loyal fans and newbies to the start of summer season 2023. Just the ticket for a sun-kissed springtime breakfast or lunch or a romantic starlit dinner set to chilled-out sounds. 

21-23 April

On the other side of the island, meanwhile, just outside San Antonio, Pikes Hotel sets the season rolling with a spectacular three-day opening event. Devotees of this pleasure palace, make sure to book ahead!

28 April

Another Playa den Bossa institution, Dunes, returns with an opening party that’s bound to get the weekend off with a bang! Expect great food, tantalising cocktails and wicked tunes!


CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS

1 April

Well-known Ibizan band Morning Drivers and accompanying pop group Vuelo Fidji return to Teatro Ibiza for a night of fantastic live performances followed by the venue’s resident DJs.

Admission is free, but capacity is limited.

4 April to 8 May

The village of Sant Jordi honours its patron saint with a full programme of events lasting through April and into May. Bring the family to enjoy all the concerts, workshops, storytelling, magic, traditional dances and sports activities. Tasty typical morsels and farmer’s wine and hierbas ibicencas competitions will ensure there’s no shortage of refreshments

8 April

A must for lovers of music from the 80s & 90s, La Movida returns to its usual venue, s'Arenal beach in San Antonio. Don your best period pieces and head down for a night of stellar performances, amazing decoration, exotic costumes and top tunes whilst dancing on the beach, retro style! 

6-9 April

The island celebrates Easter with colourful traditional religious processions held in Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia.

Don’t miss these fascinating glimpses into Ibiza’s cultural past and present!

14 April

Learn to make your own hierbas, a tasty digestive liquor – the very essence of Ibiza – after collecting all the herbs yourself on a pleasant two-hour stroll through the countryside of San Juan.

15-22 April

Can Ventosa Cultural Centre, in Ibiza Town, is proud to announce the 5th edition of the Ibicine Film Festival, featuring a number of short films, feature films and projects made at different locations around the island.

23-24 April

One for book lovers of every ilk, International Book Day will be marked by fun events at no less than four locations around the island this year. Featuring a vast range of book stalls, workshops, storytelling and handicrafts for children, an open-air library and games, it’s bound to be a hit with all the family!

Venues include Sant Jordi de Ses Salines, San Antonio, Vara de Rey in the centre of Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia.

24 April

Palacio de Congresos de Ibiza, Santa Eulalia, Ibiza is the setting for a performance of Giselle by the International Ballet Company.

For all ballet lovers, this promises to be an unmissable event.
