Or should that be 'glamping'?

From beachside simplicity to indian-style tipis and gypsy caravans we investigate how camping (or glamping) is the chicest - and cheapest - way to holiday on Ibiza.

So, you've invested in a new pair of swimmers and stocked up on sun tan lotion, with all the important bases covered now all you need is a place to stay. With accommodation prices on the up in Ibiza, camping is a budget friendly alternative. Ibiza hosts 7 campsites in total but there are 3 standout stay-overs that you need to know about. Each site has it's own unique highlights and way more to offer than just a purse friendly price tag.

Camping La Playa - Cala Martina

If you crave the ultimate chilled retreat, this is the answer. Camping La Playa is probably the most well known campsite on the island and home to the original hippie movement. It's the perfect location for those who enjoy peace and quiet, as this magical gem is the signature spot to recharge your batteries and reconnect with nature. Located in the West, just North of Santa Eulalia, the campsite sits on Cala Martina's beach front, with stunning sea views and plenty of countryside beauty to boot. This is one of the few places on the West coast that you can enjoy Ibiza's epic sunset as it drops behind the tree covered hills.

Pitch your tent below the shady pine trees or opt for the ultimate glamping experience in a traditional tipi - open up the top come nightfall for a star gazing session you'll never forget. These aren't the only accommodation options on offer, if tents aren't your thing why not try a gypsy caravan or bungalow? Daily yoga and wellness events are on offer and water sports available on the beach for kids while the Chirincana bar/restaurant serves up delicious home cooked eats and spectacular views - sometimes you can even catch some live music. The site is ideal for families and couples alike and if you're holidaying alone you're guaranteed to meet some like minded souls to enjoy a cold cerveza with.

Camping Es Cana

Bringing the kids? This one's for you. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Es Cana campsite has been a favourite with families for many years. Situated in a residential area of Es Cana, approx 4 km from Santa Eulalia and 15m North East of Ibiza Town, you can pitch up and enjoy facilities such as a swimming pool with terrace and a small play area for the little ones. The bar which offers breakfast and light snacks overlooks the pool area which is surrounded by shady pine trees and calm surroundings. Just 300m down the road is Es Cana beach but the sites location is not to far to many beautiful beaches in the North and West of the island so it's the ideal place to venture out from.

Es Cana itself has plenty of visit worthy attractions such as bars, restaurants and shops to explore while Punta Arabi hippie market is also just a stones throw away for all you shopaholics. Camping Es Cana offers plenty of options on the accommodation front, a Tipi (sleeps up to 6), a chalet (sleeps up to 4) or a bungalow (sleeps up to 5) as well as tent and mobile home pitching but their sweetest sleeper has to be the two-person cabanita's available from just 25€ per night.

Camping Cala Bassa

Camping Cala Bassa has over 50 years experience and is located close to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The perfect plot for a relaxing holiday surrounded by nature, the site offers all the usual facilities plus car and bike rental and BBQ. Got your own tent? You can pitch it here or if you're travelling light you can borrow one from €25 per night extra. The walk to the beach is about 250m and is totally worth it with crystal clear waters and water sports on offer. Located on the eastern side of the island just 8km from San Antonio, pitch up on the beach with a few drinks come early evening to watch the breathtaking sunset.

Prices: Tent pitch from €7 per night. Mobile homes and camper vans also available.


Glamping and Yoga

Fancy combining a touch of glamping with a yoga retreat? Adventure Yogi offers yoga, bed and breakfast in Ibiza from June until September. Wake-up to a morning yoga class and a healthy wholesome brunch, then the rest of the day is yours to explore beaches, sunsets and nightlife. You can either stay in the traditional Spanish finca or opt for the tipi/bell tent accommodation from €55 per night (3 night min). It's an inexpensive and fun way to experience a mini yoga retreat on the island combined with a back to nature camping experience - the ultimate in relaxation if you ask us!
