Ibiza Soundtrack: June 2013

10 great tunes we've been hearing all over the island this month.

... lovingly curated by the Spotlight clubbing team.

1. Breach

‘Let's Jack'

Another month, another house release featuring our old buddy ‘Jack'. This one is all over the island like a rash right now, popping up especially at beach bars, heard at the IMS Dalt Vila parties and with the Dirtybird residency now underway, expect to hear a lot of it at Sankeys! Be sure to watch the film clip, because it's hairy and unsettling.

2. Ninetoes

'Finder'

Nothing says holiday fiesta like a cheerful steel drum sample! That's probably why this playful track from German native Ninetoes is going down such a treat across Ibicenco clubland. This one first came to our attention at Ushuaïa and has since spread far. Beware – it's ridiculously catchy.

3. Maya Jane Coles

'Everything'

MJC's debut LP is steadily streaming its way into the ether ahead of a full release next week, meanwhile the first single has already been heavily supported in Ibiza, where Coles has rapidly become a cross-promoter favourite. Digweed himself has been known to drop this one into his lighter sets.

4. Pig and Dan

'Savage'

This Spanish export has been floating about since December last year but seems to be riding an especially strong wave this season, featuring at many a techno party and personally championed by Cocoon's Sven Vath. Sounds like what it says on the tin – so crank it.

5. Dale Howard

'Slot 47'

Another house hit with an uber deep and laid back walking bass line, shoulder popping hi-hats and – is that a donk I hear? Sly. Slot 47 has been heard in many a San An bar, including Defected party at Savannah and Departure at Itaca, and is also getting love over the island's East coast at Sankeys and Space. The bass face is strong in this one.

6. Andhim

'Wizard of Us'

Every list needs the 'epic' track. This eight-minute bliss out from the our favourite duo Andhim (depicted above as centaur and noble rider) is more for swaying and smiling than throwing crazy shapes. That's why it's been going down a treat at beach bars and on the Sands of Sa Trinxa in the late afternoon.

7. Waff

'Ibiza'

Another tune which was released right at the end of last year and is currently experiencing its summer moment in Ibiza. The Hot Creations release is, after all, named for our favourite Balearic island, so it's only apt that ‘Ibiza' has been heard coast to coast, at Space, via Nic Fanciulli and Sasha, at Ushuaïa's Ants party, in San An through Darius Syrossian and many other parties beside.

8. FCL

'It's You' (San Soda's Panorama Bar Accapella version)

The original of this track is getting all sorts of love this month, particularly within the Ibiza workers community. We've included this acappella version which San Soda first aired at Berghain's Panorama bar, and is now released on Defected, because it's turned the original into something unique. Don't expect a drop, this one is all about the flutey vocals and a rhythmic tick. Close your eyes and have a summer moment.

9. Hobo

'Incise'

Dark and twisted, this M-nus release is steadily snowballing into an Ibiza hit. It's at home in the darkest dirtiest corners (Sankeys, I'm looking at you) and also out under the stars (most recently clocked at Destino Opening Party by Solomun). Evil synth arpeggiator at 2:50 - I want your babies.

10. Monkey Safari

'Hi Life'

This dreamy number from German duo Monkey Safari owes a lot of its extensive play on the island to Pete Tong, whose support naturally exposed the track to a huge section of music lovers. All month we've been hearing the soothing, nostalgic tones, at outdoor venues like Ushuaïa; Hi Life is served best with sunset and friends.
