Ibiza Soundtrack: August 2016

Peak season spices from club to club

Oh August, you really have been something else. To say the island's dance floors have been packed would be an understatement. But the line-ups this month...wow - how brilliant they have been. I've been to some absolute belters of nights and my Shazam has been on overload, so I'm going to share some tunes with you guys. Consider it a goodbye gift to the handful of workers who just can't see it through September; a souvenir for all the August tourists, and a playlist for all those who have survived. Here are some of the gifts August has given us.

'Domino' / Oxia (Mixed by X-Press 2)

This track lead me to fly across three beds in the early hours of yesterday - finally I was in close proximity to someone playing the track I'd been hearing all month. Turns out the very friend who played it first heard it back in 2010, when it was played by Tiesto at Privilege. And even though it's over 10 years old, it's still being played by the respected techno heads at the likes of Cocoon and Mosaic by Maceo. Completely understandable, because no tune rounds up the idea of techno more than this one. What a belter.

'Mutter' / Konstantin Sibold

Yet another techno tune that has taken August by storm, this is hands down my favorite track I've heard in Ibiza so far this season. If there's one track that suits any rave it's this one, and thankfully I've been hearing it all over the shop. With a suitable sound system, 'Mutter' absolutely blows the roof off.

'Where We At' /IV05 Henrik Schwarz / Âme / Dixon feat. Derrick L. Carter

A tribalistic track from Henrik Shwarz, Âme, Derrick L. Carter and Dixon, perfected with vocals that will send shivers down your spine. What could be better? This track pulsated through the terrace of DC-10 during Solomun's impressive Diynamic shindig, which turned out to be one of the parties of the season so far. When techno does vocals it does them good, and this track certainly creates an atmosphere everyone has to experience at least once.

Mory Kanté / Yeke Yeke

Gold was officially struck when this track was made. I've just heard stories of Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin dropping this around midday after missing their flight during an Amnesia closing back in the day, so it already has some sort of legend tag - but this classic feelgood tune was played by none other than Carl Cox on his last ever voyage for Float Your Boat last week. Dreamy.

Jack Master / 'Bang The Box' (Slam Remix)

Not to be confused with Jackmaster, this is an absolute classic crowd mover and is the perfect ingredient for first pumping when your legs have just about had enough. It's also a remix by our favorite Scotsmen and if anyone is wondering, this is Richie Hawtin produce, of course.

'By Night' (Part Three) [ODDEVEN006] / Johannes Heil

Another techno treat (apologies if techno isn't what tickles your pickle) in the bag, ‘By Night' is effortlessly cool. With a sweeping bassline and hypnotic soundscapes this track goes down a treat in any club, but you'll most likely scout this one out at Mosaic by Maceo at Pacha.

'Levels' / Avicii

It would be wrong to not include anything Avicii flavoured, given that he had his retirement party at Ushuaïa this week. Love him or loathe him, this track is an absolute beauty and probably takes you back to a certain point in your life. ‘Levels' is probably the best EDM banger ever made, so at least the Swede left us with this gift to remember him by.

'Salva Mea' / Faithless

Tonight is finally the night we've all been waiting for - Faithless will grace the Ibiza Rocks stage and no doubt blow us all out the water with their brilliance. Look up the word euphoric in the dictionary and you will surely find 'Salva Mea', so we're seriously hoping it gets played tonight for a bout of spinetingling goodness. If not, we'll keep playing it on repeat on our headphones anyway.

'Here Is Why' / Tonight (KM018) / Adam Port

This is the perfect end of night, 7 AM Amnesia tune to calm us all down before we try to sleep. It's also the perfect tune to head off on a road trip to. Basically, the possibilities are endless - anything you get full enjoyment from in chilled mode, goes hand in hand with this Adam Port gem. We luuuuurve.
