Tom Varndell Backs Ibiza Rugby 10's

Tom Varndell, Rugby player extraordinaire and winger for England and the London Wasps, celebrates the forthcoming Ibiza Rugby 10's tournament

Anyone worth their salt in the Rugby World knows the name Tom Varndell. The charismatic and talented winger for England 7's and London Wasps, Tom Varndell today confirmed his commitment to the inaugural Ibiza Rugby 10's one day tournament being held on Ibiza in June.

The event is the first of its kind for the island, hosting eight teams including a team of former Premiership and International players.

Tom Varndell today said "I'm delighted to support this exciting new rugby 10's tournament in the idyllic setting of Ibiza and really looking forward to joining the players and spectators for a fantastic day of sunshine rugby."

Tom Varndell is possibly the fastest man in European and World Rugby, running the 100 metres in just 10.58 seconds (wow!) and started playing rugby at the age of eight. Playing for the Tigers senior side (2004-05) Tom holds the Premiership Record for the fastest hat trick of tries.

Currently, in the Aviva Premiership he is only 5 tries away from beating the record, currently held by Steve Hanley.

Mike Blackburn, Vice President of Ibiza Rugby Club spoke with us directly this evening and commented, "We are absolutely delighted to hear the news that Tom Varndell has confirmed his commitment to the inaugural Rugby 10's tournament in Ibiza. I personally have been an enormous admirer of Tom Varndell and the uncompromising way he plays the game. His pace and physicality make him an exceptional athlete that would be an asset to any team in the World and undoubtedly be an asset to the tournament in Ibiza in equal measure."
