Clubbing out of season | Partying on Ibiza over Easter

Before summer starts, we get a preview weekend over an extended public holiday.

Okay, so you consider yourself an Ibiza veteran, but have you ever visited outside of tourist season? Maybe you've considered it, but never taken the plunge. But now you should, as out-of-season travel has never been as popular or as easy.

Prices for flights and hotels are cheaper, and occupancy rates are low. Oh, and when it comes to Easter, not only do we get three days of public holidays but we also get the first big parties of the year. The way the dates fall this year, means that Easter is only a few weeks before the clubbing season kicks-off fully. Next stop: summer!

While not every Ibiza club has plans to open over this period, it's still a fantastic time to visit for a dance and experience the island in a new light. We'll start by looking at the parties themselves.

Travel

Some good news, compared to our guide to clubbing at New Year, is that the airlines are targeting budget travellers and have started to operate direct routes that don't necessarily fly in winter. Largely speaking, that means less need to transfer via a mainland airport.

You still won't get the wealth of choice you do from May to October, but we're confident you will find a bargain. Have a play around and find the flights that suit you.

You shouldn't dismiss alternative modes of transport either. For many, coming by ferry is one of the most romantic ways to arrive - and more environmentally friendly. Imagine docking at Ibiza Port just as the sun is rising. It's magical.

There are daily sailings to/from Barcelona, Valencia and Denía on the mainland, serviced by Baleària, Trasmapi and GNV.

Accommodation

While you might instinctively go to search for Playa d'en Bossa as you do for your summer visits, we'll stop you right there. Bossa is a summer-only resort. In fact, anybody who's driven through it as late as mid-May will tell you, it's still only slowly waking up by that point.

San Antonio will be on the quieter side, but has a general population and will be showing the early signs of businesses getting ready for summer. That said, you might feel like it's still too quiet, in which case Ibiza Town or Santa Eulalia might be more attractive propositions.

We've picked out a selection of top-drawer accommodation options for Spring stays: Ibiza hotels welcoming guests before Easter.

For a full list of hotels which are open during the off-season, please visit this page.

Where to eat

While not every restaurant on the island will be open for business at this time of year, thankfully many will be. You certainly won't be hard-pressed for choice.

Get yourself to the beach, breathe in that Mediterranean air and marvel at the view, as you tuck into something delicious. There are some sublime beach restaurants to choose from.

In addition, all the little spots favoured by residents, such as Bar Anita, Can Tixedó, Rita's Cantina, Madagascar café and Croissant Show will be open for trade as usual.

Maundy Thursday 2 April is also the final day of the month-long Pintxa San Antonio food festival. Every Thursday from 5 March, around twenty bars in San Antonio offer pintxos and a drink for €3.50. For the uninitiated, pintxos are tapas-sized snacks, usually served as a sandwich and skewered on a cocktail stick for easy-eating.

How good does that sound? It brings a whole new meaning to "bar crawl".

You can find more all-year-round restaurant recommendations on this page.

Other activities

Unlike past years, the Sunset Strip will be open at Easter this year. Hallelujah! Thanks, Mambo Group. A little further round the coast, old favourite Golden Buddha remains constantly open at Caló des Moro. At Cap Negret, Hostal La Torre is also open with daily sunset DJ sessions. Booking is strongly advised.

You can also catch regular DJ sets at Malanga Café in Santa Eulalia and at The Standard's ground-level Jara bar and restaurant in Ibiza Town.

Looking instead for something to burn calories rather than pile them on?

Annual cycling event Vuelta a Ibiza MTB Scott by Shimano takes place across the entire Easter weekend. Do you own a yacht or do you just like looking at them? The Ruta de la Sal regatta is also this weekend.

If you'd like to learn more about what's going on, visit our events calendar or give our article on Easter & springtime on Ibiza a read.

What to expect from the weather

You might get full days of sunshine at Easter, but then again the weather is still a little unpredictable at this time of year.

Spring weather is liable to change, so please pack for sunny days and rain. We get April showers here too! Warm clothing for the evening is also essential, as you will notice a shift in temperature once the sun goes down.

Assuming the sun is out, it will feel nice and warm during the day with the chance for sunbathing also realistic.

Get to the beach or get out on a hike with Balearic Outdoor Adventures. You might as well make the most of it whilst the tourist numbers are low, car parks are empty and beaches have space. You can find more info on the weather in April by visiting the link.

How does that all sound? Just thinking about it puts us in the mood for summer - more so once we hit the dancefloor. Wherever you're planning on spending Easter, enjoy any days off and time spent with your family.

We look forward to welcoming you to Ibiza this summer, if not sooner.
