Pop King: The music of David Guetta

Ibiza clubland royalty.

David Guetta is a name that is hard for anyone to ignore, especially on Ibiza, where upbeat, vocal-soaked pop tunes fill his sets every summer delighting a legion of fans. Known the world over, the crown King of EDM brings out tracks that constantly peak the global music charts, becoming instant clubland anthems.

F*** Me I'm Famous has been his original Ibiza residency since 2002 and this year moves to its new home of Hï Ibiza, each Friday from 7 June. If that weren't enough, this year he'll also be taking his BIG residency to Ushuaïa, across the road from Hï, on Mondays, starting on 10 June.

Yes, even with a busy international touring schedule, the French DJ still finds the time to play on Ibiza twice a week during the summer season. To celebrate these moves, we've selected some of our favourite David Guetta tracks - ones that you might hear at BIG or F*** Me I'm Famous - to get you ready for the summer.

Throughout the '00s David Guetta's career was on the rise. Having already enjoyed success with releases like Love Is Gone and Love Don't Let Me Go, he took his first steps to global domination, with the lead single on his third album When Love Takes Over featuring Kelly Rowland that shot him to international superstardom.

Since then this uplifting dance floor hit has been dubbed as the number one dance-pop collaboration of all time and is considered to be responsible for kicking off the American dance music chart trend in the 21st century.

David Guetta continued to develop his pop-dance-infused sound in later albums like Nothing But The Beat on which Titanium, his collaboration with Australian singer Sia, appears. This track would be his next mega-hit, topping charts around the world.

Titanium was the first time that Guetta worked with Sia and from this point they have been a hit-making duo. Most recently, Sia featured her strong emotive vocals on Flames, a song which saw Guetta explore electro-tinged deep house.

Over the years, Guetta has proved that he is the top dog when it comes to EDM, resulting in the title “Grandfather of EDM”, with one of the songs that really showcases this being Hey Mama. This electro house trap mash-up featuring Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha and Afrojack is Guetta's most successful online hit currently holding a whopping 1.2 billion views on YouTube.

Last year, he hooked up with Bebe Rexha once again to produce the moombahton sizzler Say My Name also featuring reggaeton star, J Balvin.

Aside from his usual clubland releases, David Guetta occasionally does turn his hand to more chilled productions. His fellow Hï Ibiza resident mate, Black Coffee is known for captivating deep groove house, so when the two artists came together for the track Drive - the result was a release overflowing with positive vibes.

It was released as part of Guetta's most recent Album, 7. The album was a double CD release, with one side dedicated to Jack Back - David Guetta's underground music alias. Tracks like Overtone, darkly atmospheric in nature are a complete change to his club-based sound.

Following the release of his latest album, we expect David Guetta will want to fill 2019 with epic parties. Like I Do is a prime example of the type of music that you'll be hearing at BIG and F*** Me I'm Famous this season.

This dance-floor-ready beat, which combines future house and bouncy electronica was made in creative collaboration with Martin Garrix. This new funky direction could be the future for David Guetta and we, for one, cannot wait to hear more and to see him play this summer.
