An Ibiza hideaway amid the salt flats

Staying at Casa Munich opens up a secret paradise in Las Salinas.

camera

When you arrive at Casa Munich after driving up a typical country road by the salt flats of Las Salinas, you come to a pair of gold and black painted iron gates; this is a small and intriguing clue as to what lies within. When those gates open, a secret world is revealed, a place of wonder.

There is activity and yet much silence around and indeed in high season guests are surprised to learn that each of the 40 apartments, set in the glorious grounds of Casa Munich, have people in them. Yes, silence here really is golden.

Lots of pretty Mediterranean plants make up the garden with ones from Ibiza's occupation by the Moors with palms and fruit trees and of course there are lots of cacti from the New World and the magic pinks and purples of bougainvillea .

Taste and style

Elegance and class in one of the studio living spaces

The Moors also left their stamp on the architecture of Ibiza, as evidenced by the white-painted cubist houses that cover the island. Here, you will see that style replicated in the apartments, built like small self-contained homes.

To enter the room we were staying in, one ascends a private stairway to reveal a large open terrace with a table and chairs for al fresco dining. Two stylish sun loungers just begged to be used. Inside, the apartment is airy and there is plenty of room. Bright swathes of colour inhabit the sofa area and there are fine decorating touches throughout.

Here, you can opt for the more traditional Mediterranean style, loved by many, or a more contemporary look that is being introduced into the newer buildings to provide variety.

We particularly liked the generous bottles of alcohol with the mini-bar offering; you will also get quality snacks and things you actually might want to eat. It is clear that here the owners have worked hard to make sure your stay is a very comfortable one. You would be hard pressed not to relax at Casa Munich.

Relaxed ways to take breakfast

Start with the small breakfast and work your way up

Food options here are good: breakfasts are out of this world and well worth it. They are taken by one the main pool and here you can spend your morning, breaking your fast in the most relaxed and unhurried way imaginable.

Our recommendation is to go for the basic desayuno pequeño option which gives you croissant, breads, jams, juice and coffee. Get one of the extras like eggs cooked any style with bacon and you can delay the lunch.

The bistro provides a reasonable menu from noon to 10pm with items like Spain's famed cured ham and melon to mains of pizza, pasta and homemade burgers as well as healthy salads. Plus, there is a good selection of dishes for children.

Divine pool spaces

Main pool area for breakast and bistro dining

There are a total of three swimming pools here, all surrounded by lovely sun loungers and boasting many relaxing shaded areas. There's one right next to the children's pool, so you can chill while the little ones play.

You will also find a great collection of books, so if you have forgotten your holiday reading or left your Kindle at home, never fear, all is here.

Zen spa moments

The current spa at Casa Munich - a good incentive to go there to see the new one!

Brand-new for the 2017 season is the attractive new spa area replete with its own pool. A range of massages is available, even healing reiki. The spa is presided over by local adopted goddess Tanit a mother and nurse. Sounds like the ideal person to exhort you to unwind, de-stress, rest, and luxuriate. Of course, this being a holiday, her work is half done.

Other great touches here include the tennis courts and the small fleet of bicycles available for all guests to use. Imagine sunset in Las Salinas with a pink sunset as a backdrop as you cycle through the salt flats. Could anything be more romantic?

It is very likely that you will be going out your during your stay on Ibiza. You might like to know then that the same people that bring you this place also have a couple of beach clubs, a cool bar, a restaurant and even a luxury palace in Ibiza's old town, Dalt Vila. Go to the boutique hotel's website for links.

We think you will love Casa Munich and adore it too. The staff is great, the location excellent and the good feeling you will get after staying here will leave you feeling simply sublime
