Ibiza Soundtrack: June 2014

Ten tracks Ibiza was raving and chilling to in June ...

1. Sailor and I

'Turn Around' (Ame remix)

Only recently released after a long wait, the split vocals of this Ame remix have been echoing about Ibiza since the pre-season parties and steadily gathered momentum since. It's respectfully similar to the original with modest club-friendly updates - a pin-up track for Ibiza's obsession with vocals which has been heard right across the island indoors and out.

2. Ten Walls

'Walking with Elephants'

Aptly titled track Walking with Elephants has been an up-lifting feature on many Ibiza tech-house dance floors this past month. Something about the solemn brass march is just so perfectly elaphantine - not that any of us are thinking of it quite in those terms when we stomp our feet on the dance floor to Mario Basanov's latest triumph...

3. Dansson & Marlon Hoffstadt

'Shake That'

A crossover tune in Ibiza, getting rinsed by the Sankeys massive and Ibiza workers communites (with no small overlap between the two) plus getting love at Ushuaïa's Departures and Pacha. The rhythmic vocal line is unbelievably catchy - but good luck catching all the words!

4. Maceo Plex

'Conjure Balearia'

It's all about the breakdown in this tune - now heard all over the island but Spotlight will always remember it from Amnesia closing last year - at this point unreleased and unheard, it marked the peak of an incredible set from Maceo, airing just as the sun came out and beamed down into the terrace. Magic.

5. Chaim

'Blue Shadow'

Something for the more chilled moments, this track has found its way onto the island's playlist mostly via many beach bars and some solid radio support. A perfect one for the drives north to some remote Ibiza beach or lazy lounging with cocktail in hand - as important as the epic club moments when it comes to island life.

6. Gus Gus

'Crossfade' (Maceo Plex remix)

Can't help but froth over most of what Maceo Plex is dipping his mits into at the moment. This remix has enjoyed attention all over the island, catching listeners off guard when the monster bass kicks in. It went off particularly well at his Maetrik set at DC10: dark, angry and powerful, it's dark room raving at its best.

7. Moderat

'Bad Kingdom' (DJ Koze remix)

A Moderat classic which got a new lease on life recently from a selection of high profile dance music remixes. The Marcel Dettman remix stirred up a lot of attention over winter but it's the dark and moody Koze touch that has got us hooked - something about that held back bass drop. Dixon's loving it too, and played it at Cocoon to brilliant effect.

8. Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

'Tremor'

One for the EDM fans here, with an aggressive and upbeat cut from three of the biggest names on the EDM scene - youngster Garrix and the Cream regular duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Crowds have been losing their, um, marbles, to this at events at Ushuaïa, Amnesia Presents, Cream terrace and many bars San An side. Not one for the faint-hearted.

9. Patrick Topping

'Forget'

Patrick Topping is on his way to becoming a very favoured producer on the island. The most shazamed track on Ibiza last month, this has leaked into bedrooms, bars, superclubs like Sankeys and of course Paradise at DC10. There's something irresistably dance-worthy about that simple bass line, rebounding like a flicked rubber band ... but heavier.

10. David August

'Epikur'

Finally, an epic dreamer that has brought a bit of majesty to dance floors all year. This has been rinsed in bars, cars and superclubs like Amnesia (courtesy of Sven Väth), Space (courtesty of Sasha) or basically anywhere that the Innervisions crew touches down. Best enjoyed with a sunrise.
