Mexican food has come a long way on Ibiza. Alongside some long-established favourites, a new generation of restaurants is putting considerably more thought into regional dishes, traditional techniques, agave spirits and the ingredients that give Mexican cooking its remarkable range.
The result is a choice that goes well beyond the familiar combination of tacos, nachos and margaritas. From sophisticated rooftop dining to proper taquerías and contemporary cooking in the north, these are some of the island's best places to seek out Mexican flavours.
Aficionados of food from Mexico will be happy to see that no fewer than three of the entries hold the Sello Copil (indicated by a *); PaloSanto, Salón San Miguel and Tacosanto. Awarded by the prestigious Fundación Casa de México in Spain, it recognises restaurants that demonstrate authenticity, traditional techniques and a commitment to Mexican culinary identity.
The timing is no coincidence: with Mexico celebrating its national day on 16 September, there is no better moment to explore the island's Mexican food scene.
CUYO

At CUYO in the seaside resort of Cala Llonga, Mexican cooking (under the experienced hand of chef Ignacio Sanabria) meets the sea. The restaurant takes a Mexican-led approach to seafood, offering a different interpretation of the cuisine from the island's more taco-focused addresses. It is one to consider for those who like their Mexican food with a strong Mediterranean connection.
Thursday nights are DecaDance nights - a vibrant gastronomic and musical experience with iconic hits from the '80s, '90s, and 2000s.
PaloSanto *

Inside the Las Dalias complex in the village of San Carlos, PaloSanto takes a more contemporary approach to Mexican cuisine. The kitchen is headed by Mexican chef Iker Llona Orozco, whose European career includes experience at London's Le Gavroche and the Ceviche group, as well as further training at the Basque Culinary Center.
The food explores the acidic, smoky and spicy flavours associated with Mexican cooking, with traditional ingredients and techniques reworked through a modern lens. Current dishes range from seafood tacos to manchamanteles and pulpo zarandeado, while the drinks list gives plenty of attention to tequila and mezcal.

Cielito

Perched on the rooftop of Bonito Ibiza in San Antonio and boasting one of the best sunset views in the bay, Cielito brings Mexican cooking into fine-dining territory. The menu combines Mexican traditions with modern culinary techniques, with ceviches, aguachiles, cochinita pibil tacos and lamb birria among the dishes highlighted by the restaurant.
There is also a dedicated tequila and cocktail bar, while the rooftop affords panoramic views across San Antonio Bay.
El Clo

Set in the former Clodenis space in the small village of San Rafael, El Clo takes a contemporary approach to Mexican and Nikkei cuisine, with Peruvian and Mediterranean influences also making their way onto the menu. Expect dishes such as aguachile, esquites, mole and blue-corn tacos alongside more eclectic creations.
A beautifully atmospheric garden, exquisite Mayan projection mapping on the finca walls and a deeply romantic setting round out the offer.
Palapa Ibiza

Right on the San Antonio seafront, Palapa Ibiza - is a colourful, casual cantina specialising in Mexican street food and cocktails. Tacos are the main attraction, with fillings including al pastor, cochinita pibil, chicken tinga, roast beef, vegetables and prawns, alongside quesadillas, nachos, huevos rancheros and homemade spicy sauces.
Tequila, mezcal and margaritas keep the Mexican theme going, while the terrace overlooking the marina makes this a particularly easygoing choice for a bite by the water.
Salón San Miguel *
The newest name on the list, Salón San Miguel opened in the village of San Miguel in 2025 and quickly established itself as a destination for Mexican cooking in the north of the island. The restaurant describes its approach as rooted in Mexican culture, with cooking over fire, traditional comales and underground ovens forming part of the experience.
Tacos and tamales are among the highlights, alongside mezcal and cocktails, while vegetarian and vegan diners are well catered for. The setting is relaxed and intimate, with the restaurant's emphasis very much on hospitality as well as food.
When tepache, a traditional, fermented Mexican pineapple drink, is on the menu, you know you're really on the Aztec Trail.
Tacosanto *

For a more straightforward taco fix, Tacosanto in Playa d'en Bossa puts tacos firmly at the centre of the menu. The current selection includes suadero, cochinita pibil, carnitas, tinga, al pastor, lengua, campechano and gobernador, alongside burritos, quesadillas and other Mexican staples.
A great selection of Mexican beers, Micheladas, tequilas and mouth-watering margaritas comes alongside the street-art styling, colourful, art-filled setting and relaxed poolside atmosphere, with diners also having access to the hotel's pool terrace for Mexican-style fiestas. Vamos!
Coyote
Coyote in San José takes a modern approach to Mexican cooking, with house-made salsas and an impressive emphasis on chillies - the restaurant uses no fewer than eight different Mexican chillies in its sauces. Caramba! It's a useful choice for diners who like their Mexican food with a bit of heat and want something beyond the standard Tex-Mex repertoire.

TKO Tacos Eivissa
Set close to the port in Ibiza Town, this convenient spot is getting rave reviews for its affordable tacos, nachos, quesadillas and more, along with late night service.
Chidas Bar + Cantina
Chidas Bar + Cantina brings the taquería tradition to the heart of Ibiza Town, combining Mexican food with a casual bar setting. Its straightforward, informal approach makes it a useful stop for those looking for tacos and Mexican flavours without the more elaborate presentation found at some of the island's newer restaurants.
2:28 Taquería de Barrio
For a proper taco fix, 2:28 Taquería de Barrio in Sant Jordi keeps things focused on authentic Mexican street food. The menu centres on tacos filled with beef, skirt steak, enchilada chicken and Mexican chorizo, alongside a vegetarian option, while mezcal, agua fresca and Mexican beer continue the Mexican theme. Ideal for informal dining and near the airport.
El Deseo
Mexican specialities and a mezcal bar are the focus at El Deseo - in the village of Jesús - where tacos, enchiladas, ceviches, quesadillas and other Mexican dishes sit alongside a selection of international plates. The relaxed restaurant also leans into mariachi, tequila and a lively atmosphere, making it a more informal choice for Mexican food away from Ibiza Town.
Taco Paco
A Santa Eulalia institution since 2011, Taco Paco has built a loyal following for its homemade Mexican cooking, colourful setting and potent margaritas. The menu goes well beyond tacos, with burritos, tostadas, tamales, quesadillas and ceviche, alongside Mexican beers and tequilas. With its relaxed, characterful interior and strong local following, it is a particularly good option for anyone staying on the east side of the island.
