Anyma presents ÆDEN debuts at [UNVRS] tonight, Tuesday 9 June.
On the cusp on another exciting season, we revisit Luke's review from his visit to Anyma last summer.

My Ibiza season wouldn't have been complete without a visit to Anyma's [UNVRS] residency. This was the one I had been saving up for: patiently waiting weeks for the right line-up and resisting the urge to scroll through social media clips that might spoil any surprises.
Despite the anticipation, I had a few questions in mind before heading in to witness the spectacle.
- Is this iteration bigger and better than earlier shows elsewhere in the world?
- Has the production stepped up?
- Will the dancefloor be swamped with phones at every drop? Or has it calmed down?
- And, perhaps the biggest of all, have we reached the peak-clubbing experience?

I arrived just after 01:00 to find the Rebūke and Script back-to-back in full swing. Their set leaned on tight, percussion-heavy Melodic Techno grooves with some acid and UK Bass sprinkled in.
At 01:30 they dropped Syren, Rebūke’s collaboration with Anyma, a tune that I was anticipating to make an appearance over the speakers. It's certainly one that deserves some comment.
Its detuned lead is ear-piercingly eerie, the is mix sparse, yet atmospheric, it’s dark, dystopian, and horror-tinged, but still a somehow a bit of a banger.
Then, as if to remind everyone of his roots, Rebūke followed shortly after with Along Came Polly. It’s a track that still hits like nothing else. Its sound design is incredibly distinctive and impossible to ignore for that reason.
Together, the two track showed just how far his sound has progressed, from an off-kilter breakthrough tune to a heavyweight collab with one of the biggest names in the game.
John Summit was the next DJ to take to the booth and he came armed with surprises. I was expecting his usual high-energy Tech House. Instead, he reshaped everything to fit the night's darker, Melodic Techno edge.

Opening with a remix of Pump Up The Jam, from there, he threaded in reworks of his own tunes like Where You Are - stripped back and rebuilt for this setting.
Even Enjoy the Silence got an airing, the original Depeche Mode cut echoing across the room before dissolving into something darker and unfamilar.
But now it was time for the main event. Anyma's arrival wasn't just about the music, it was the full production shebang on top.
Lasers everywhere. Screens covering huge portions of the venue. Cables and wires hanging from the ceiling, glowing in sync with the beat, turning the room into a living, breathing symbiotic organism.

On screen, Anyma appeared as his transhuman, cyborg-like avatar, moving fluidly across cinematic visuals. The music was everything you'd expect: a mixture of his own originals, Tale Of Us tunes and tracks from other artists in the Afterlife sphere.
And, to answer an earlier question, yes, phones were everywhere.
With every drop, every laser burst and every new visual, hundreds of screens went up. Ordinarily, I'd find this a distraction. But here, I get it. When the production is this impressive and all-consuming, people want to document the fact they were in attendance. It's a spectacle after all.
That said, it should not be forgotten that nightclubs are for dancing and recording videos should always play secondary to that primary function.

Reflecting on my other questions: is it biggest version of Anyma's show yet? Definitely.
The scale of the visuals alone has increased exponentially. Without a doubt, the projections and physical assets work together to create an experience that you cannot help but be bowled over by. [UNVRS] is the ideal canvas for Anyma and his team to work with.
Is phone-use prolific? Honestly, yes. Unless a physical ban is enforced, which seems completely unrealistic at this scale, phones on the dancefloor are not going away any time soon. For better or worse, they are ingrained in modern culture.
Make your own preference and be the change you want to see by all accounts. Just remember any complaints are futile. Save that bluster for more constructive conversations.

Finally, have we reached the peak clubbing experience?
Frankly, you’re not going to find anything close to this at your nearest city's biggest nightclub - or even at most other big-name residencies found on Ibiza, for that matter.
What it offers is a glimpse into what’s possible when cutting-edge technology and electronic music are fused at scale. The detail in the visuals, the integration between sound and moving image, the sense of stepping into living, breathing digital artwork, is a stark reminder that club culture can evolve in new, exciting directions. Peaked? I think we're only just getting started.

Technologically speaking, this is as good as it gets right now, perhaps only rivalled globally by the Las Vegas Sphere - another of Anyma's domains. However, the overwhelming majority of clubs will continue to thrive on dark rooms, strobes and great sound systems.
Visuals are a bonus, not a necessity.
Maybe the real takeaway, is that [UNVRS] offers an entirely alternative clubbing experience. Its fully immersive, high-budget branch of the culture co-exists alongside the sweaty basements, open-air beach raves and no-frills dancefloors that proceeded it.
That balance - and the choice to pick whichever variation that strikes a chord with your own persuasions - is what makes electronic music culture, and Ibiza's nightlife offerings in particular, so rich, versatile and damn thrilling.
