Local, seasonal dining on the rise in Ibiza

Restaurants championing zero-kilometre produce.

Ibiza's Island Council (Consell d’Eivissa) is backing a renewed push towards sustainable gastronomy, with the Ibiza Sabors* 2026 awards spotlighting restaurants that place local produce firmly on the menu.

Hosted in collaboration with PIMEEF (the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises), the ceremony gathered chefs, restaurateurs and industry figures to recognise establishments actively supporting the island’s agricultural and fishing heritage. At its core, Ibiza Sabors continues to strengthen ties between kitchens and the land, promoting a way of working where restaurants prioritise nearby, seasonal ingredients.

Addressing attendees, Council President Vicent Marí described the initiative as a natural move towards promoting Ibiza’s culinary identity. He pointed to the interconnected role of farmers, fishers and restaurateurs in maintaining both landscape and tradition, while also reinforcing consumer trust by clearly identifying venues that use zero-kilometre ingredients.

The 2026 edition further consolidates the updated Ibiza Sabors framework introduced earlier this year, which centres on a quality seal designed to foster collaboration across the supply chain. While producers and distributors form part of that ecosystem, it is the restaurants themselves that bring these ingredients to the table, thus translating local sourcing into tangible dining experiences.

In the top tier, the Excellence category recognises establishments where local produce accounts for over 10% of usage. In Ibiza Town, longstanding names such as Can Alfredo, Sa Nansa, Can Font and La Gaia lead the way. Across the island, venues including Es Gerret, Es Ventall, Cana Sofia and Port Balansat also feature prominently.

The Commitment category highlights restaurants integrating between 5% and 10% local produce into their kitchens. Among those recognised are S'Essenci, Il Gatto e la Volpe, Can Mimosa, Es Terral and Juntos House, alongside others spread across Sant Antonio Sant José and San Juan.

Completing the list, the Origin category includes El Local, representing establishments at an earlier stage in adopting locally sourced ingredients.

Taken together, the awards reflect a broad cross-section of Ibiza’s dining scene - from heritage institutions to newer projects - each contributing to a gradual shift towards more conscious sourcing. As Ibiza Sabors continues to evolve, the emphasis remains clear: champion the island’s produce not only as a resource, but as a defining feature of its culinary identity.
