Activity board: captain your own boat

No boat license, no problem.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Sailing off into the big drink on your own boat without the need of a license - yes please I hear you say. On your Ibiza holiday you can hire small boats and take around up to five others with you. Trips usually recommended routes suggested by the hire companies, so it's easy to fill your journey with lovely vistas. This isn't time for that Atlantic crossing you always dreamed of, but you will have heaps of fun.

WHY SHOULD I DO IT?

Essentially, you can go at your own pace, stop to admire the view and stop to swim and snorkel. Ibiza, its coast and outlying islands are really beautiful from the water and there are coves and bays that you would never normally see or go to. Pack drinks and snacks or a full lunch and dine like a sailor at sea with breathtaking natural beauty all around you, Anyone with a natural wanderlust will love this.

HOW CAN I GET INTO IT?

Very easily. You can choose either a half or a full day to take out the boats and there are a number of providers on the island. We love Adventure Yellowboats, where there's a choice of boat type and the great Star Boats, which can take up to six people on its seacraft. Fret not about burning as this type of boat has a sun canopy to shield you from the more powerful sun rays out at sea, though do pack the sun cream.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DO IT?

Specialist hire companies operate mainly in the summer season, so you'll be able to get into this type of activity from the month of May up to October (check with the boat company for exact dates). If you're not experienced at all in any way on the water, we'd suggest a day when the sea is calm.
