Sumptuous sunset views via Aperture terrace

Marina Playa's Aperture Terrace gives window onto glorious San Antonio Bay sunsets.

There are always secrets to discover, sometimes they are happy ones: Aperture Terrace is one. This open-air space at Marina Playa Apartments in San Antonio Bay that gives a lens on amazing sunsets is back for 2017. We went along to get a first-hand view of this gorgeous sunset terrace.

If you want to get away from the crowds and enjoy incredible bay views, this is the place to come. It is a unique space with fun and entertainment always on tap, with parties through the day and at night.

The night we went was opening night, called the ‘Happy opening' with live music from local artists David Dorado and SonyV and later into the night, the seriously sophisticated electronic guitar sounds of Masayga.

Deep house with guitar

The ambient rush of deep house tunes and later guitar sounds reverberated nicely through our bodies as we soaked up the stunning location. Looking over at one point, I grinned watching everybody smiling and getting ready for sunset. Handily, if you are not sure what time the sun falls below the horizon, details are on the Aperture Terrace website for the days ahead.

On the night we went, the terrace looked even more dramatic with its white minimalist tones adorned with the sculptures of artist Marco Zurita. Like a modern day take on Greek theatre.

What really impressed upon us was a kind of free-spirited air on the terrace with this gorgeous expansive sun, like being in the world's best light show, but for real. There's a pool, Balinese beds, superb cocktails and a chilled, relaxed crowd.

Events through the week

There are events all through the week and entrance is free. On Mondays all afternoon to early evening, you can try the 'Fabulous' chill party with an energetic line up of musicos. Where that day party leaves off, it's time for 'Here comes the sun' the aptly titled sunset parties that also happen on most days of the week (except Saturdays). Every day is sunset adoration day here though.

Can you see yourself reclining, listening to some experimental electronic music with different rhythms from the four corners of the earth? Well, in Sounds of Freedom Culture every Tuesday, that's exactly what you can do. It's a totally free and liberated way of washing the big fiery ball descend.

Friday of course has its own special night with Planetarium. This is a deep tech house journey from sundown to midnight with Maxmiliano Guzman and guests. Elegance with every sweet beat.

Sunday nights is good for cheaper drinks prices so you can relax for less. The night, called Local Heroes has a changing live music roster from local artists. In this expect to hear it all: rock ‘n' roll, swing, acoustics and deep electronic fusions.

The sculpture of Marco Zurita

We had a ball and as you will see above, you can too. It's really worth the visit to come here. When you get to Aperture, you'll see the entrance on the Cala de Bou beach road opposite Es Pouet beach. Look for the stairs ahead of you as you enter and go right up to sit down and be served.

If you haven't yet discovered this little gem in San Antonio Bay, it's time you did. If arriving in the early evening, dump the luggage and head on down for a superb sunset.
