Ibiza's in the midst of a whopping culture fest which started last weekend

Ibiza's in the midst of a whopping culture fest which started last weekend and includes the coming one too. Santa Eulalia played host to a festival of Balearic Island Culture a few days ago when 35,000 people turned up to participate – not a bad crowd for an island with a population of around 100,000! Amongst the attractions from all four Balearics were 25 thoroughbred horses from Menorca as well as actors, artisans, stalls and agricultural machinery.

This weekend it's the turn of Santa Gertrudis to draw the crowds – about 30,000 are expected – at the annual Can Caus agricultural show. From 10am to 9pm visitors will be able to see the best of Ibicenco agriculture; prizewinning livestock, sheep, goats, hens and horses and they'll even be able to buy agricultural machinery! As well as this there'll be local craftsmen on duty actually going about their crafty business for the benefit of visitors who can also purchase their products.

All in all it's a fascinating way of learning about island life as it really was not too long ago plus a great opportunity to sample some of the excellent products – goat's cheese and yoghurt, for example – from Can Caus itself
