Review: Above & Beyond at Cream Amnesia July 14th

Above & Beyond play an energetic and inspirational set.

Of all DJs in all genres of dance music, no one comes close to affecting me with their music as Above & Beyond. They are an amazing inspiration who touch people through music and life in addition to their sets always being some of the best I have ever heard hands down. The video they did for “On A Good Day (Metropolis)” in the slums of Detroit caring about a place and a situation that most Americans don't even know much about really puts them in a class all on their own. I was beyond excited to hear them play Cream at Amnesia on Thursday as this was the first time I've had the opportunity to hear them live since their unforgettable and moving set at Electric Zoo Festival in New York last September.

I walked into the main room to find Jono and Paavo already playing to a completely packed crowd. Many new tracks from their recently released artist album “Group Therapy” were played including the wildly popular “Sun and Moon” as well as “Thing Called Love” which had the entire crowd singing along to every word. I also especially enjoyed “Prelude” from “Group Therapy” as something about the melody reminds me of summer here in Ibiza. “On A Good Day (Metropolis)”, which has basically become a club anthem the past couple years was played, and tripled the already epic level of energy in the room. This track is somewhat of a cliche by now, but for some reason I never get tired of hearing it.

What really stood out to me was all the beautiful and inspirational messages displayed throughout their set about life and love. It was like they were trying to reach people and give them hope for the moment with the power of music.
