Review: Together 5th Birthday at Amnesia, 2015

Chase & Status, Skrillex and Diplo blew out the candles.

It is always a pleasure to check how a party is improving and growing each season over here. Five years ago Together took its place at Amnesia and has enjoyed much deserved success since, turning Tuesday nights into a massive party which doesn't have anything to envy of a festival. Huge line-ups, high quality stage productions and a packed dancefloor have made Together's parties an expected event for all those dance music lovers. Last night they wanted to celebrate their time in the white isle by filling the colossal main room with explosive sounds and heart-wrenching bass lines.

Staying away from parties for a few weeks totally makes your returning night a remarkable one and obviously I didn't want to miss the chance to stamp out Together's candles with my pair of sneakers, ready to break the dancefloor, jump and chant a few tunes I was sure I was going to hear. By the time I got in, Chase & Status were preparing the attendees with a high warm-up set playing harder than the other times I've checked them out this season. Through a back catalogue of chart topping hits from their own productions, the dynamic duo had a lot to play. The first half hour consisted almost exclusively of reggae and jungle beats but as soon as the room was quite packed, their usually radio friendly dubstep was the main theme. There was no shortage of their own tracks with Take Me Away or No Problem in the gig repertoire and other musical gems that maintained the crowd's attention throughout like Grade's King or Dimension's Maschinen. In the last half hour they really hit the breakbeat hard, which all of us appreciated, preparing our ears for the following artists.

And they couldn't be other than Skrillex and Diplo, together and up in arms, bringing their collaborative project Jack Ü to Ibiza for the very first time. All went crazy when the two kings jumped to the stage, thanking the entire crowd for joining them during the special night. Being a huge fan of Skrillex but not really into Diplo's music, I have to admit that Jack Ü project surpassed my expectations with flying colours, spanning a mix of dubstep, trap, hip-hop and even house sounds all over the room. The successful team-up, who released their first album back in February, manned the turntables in such a professional way and hyped the audience with an eclectic set exclusively delivered to make the people jump en masse. To highlight, because I am a girly-music lover sometimes, the moment they played an amazing remix of Beyonce's 7/11 tune which I chanted from atop the shoulders of a random and nice big guy who did me that huge favour (don't follow my example, we're techinically not allowed to do that in clubs).

The night just kept going as you can all imagine with these two monsters on the stage, jumping and interacting with the crowd as always. The set also included a trap remix of their well-known Take Ü There hit and other tracks from their debut album like Where Are U Now or Febreze as well as key tracks from the two DJs' respective solo catalogues like Diplo's collaboration with Yellow Claw, Techno, or Lny Tnz and Skrillex's Bangarang. Today, a little bit hungover and with my foot in pain from my many dance movements, I cheer for another 5 years of Together's parties over here and for big and real artists who clearly know how and what to play for their crowd. Happy Birthday!!!
