Formentera Jazz Festival has announced the programme for its 12th edition, set to take place from 4 to 7 June 2026, following its recent recognition as the winner of the Balearic Islands Tourism Award 2025 for Best Tourist Experience.
Now firmly established as one of the Mediterranean’s most distinctive boutique music festivals, the event combines international Jazz talent with intimate performances in some of Formentera’s most scenic and atmospheric locations. Over the past decade, the festival has become a key fixture in the island’s cultural calendar, attracting music lovers from across Spain and beyond while promoting a more sustainable and culturally focused model of tourism.
This year’s edition will once again unfold across a selection of iconic island venues, including Sant Francesc Square, Blue Bar on Migjorn Beach and Ses Roques, which will host the festival’s traditional closing jam session. The combination of live music and open-air settings has long been part of the festival’s identity, creating a relaxed atmosphere that blends naturally with Formentera’s landscape and slower pace of life.
Headlining the 2026 programme is acclaimed Cameroonian bassist and vocalist Richard Bona, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern jazz and world music. Known for collaborations with artists including Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, Bona’s appearance is expected to be one of the highlights of this year’s festival.
Also joining the line-up is Senegalese musician Momi Maiga, whose fusion of Jazz, Flamenco and African traditions has earned international attention in recent years. Austrian saxophonist and composer Muriel Grossmann will make her festival debut with her spiritually driven contemporary Jazz sound, while vocalist Elena Sasson brings a blend of Persian poetry, Kurdish influences and modern Jazz arrangements.
The programme also includes performances from the Garcias-Fuster-Vaquer Quartet, featuring Mallorcan pianist Toni Vaquer, as well as María Gil & Dee Jay Foster.
Alongside the music, organisers continue to emphasise the festival’s environmental commitment, including its zero-plastic policy and encouragement of sustainable mobility across the island. The recent tourism award recognised the event not only for its artistic programme, but also for its contribution to promoting a more conscious and value-driven approach to tourism in the Balearics.
With its mix of internationally renowned artists, intimate venues and strong connection to the island’s natural surroundings, Formentera Jazz Festival continues to stand out as one of the most unique cultural experiences for residents, visitors and Jazz fans everywhere.
