What music does Sasha currently have in his record bag?

We dispatched our club editor on a fact-finding mission before a headline appearance at Akasha.

When DJs are as universally loved as Sasha is, there's always a solid expectation with regard to what he'll be playing: the style and mood, if not the exact tracks themselves. Although some super-fans are likely to have brushed up, via his various online platforms or recent gigs.

What we can say with a fair degree of certainty is that we'll be getting a healthy dose of Prog House, a touch of Breakbeat, a few curveballs to catch you off-guard and one or two well-known crowd-pleasers.

Sasha is back on the island this coming Saturday, but the weekend just gone, he spent traversing the length of the UK, with sets in Brighton, Liverpool and Glasgow.

Ahead of his headline appearance at Akasha on 14 February, we dispatched our club editor on a fact-finding mission to a wet and windy UK south coast. His only job was to report back about what music Sasha currently has in his record bag.

When you first arrive at a club, it's important to find your spot and settle into the groove. Having just jumped on at Concorde2, Sasha was in the early stages of his set. Not that you would have realised from the bodies on the dancefloor. The room was already swamped. Optimal conditions.

This Echonomist remix from Culoe de Song's 2024 album The Konspiracy Theory on Madorasindahouse Records would set the tone for the next three hours.

At this stage of the night, Sasha was still building the foundations, which included a period of some brooding Indietronica. This one had somewhat of a Fred Again quality to it, and, fortunately, Mr Shazam was happy to play ball and divulge his knowledge.

This track rocked my world the first time I heard Coxy play it at Space in 2014. Still doing the business all this time later, now enjoying a second lease of life after being relicensed by Armada a couple of years ago.

It was the dub version that he played, but for all intents and purposes, you'll totally get the gist by hitting play on the above. Just listen to that fizzing acidline, which spirals ever upwards until it's barely audible. The whole club erupted for this one - a real communal moment of ecstasy.

Another track from a few years ago, which got the whole club on their feet, throwing up limbs. Jonathan Kaspar's rework of Rex The Dog's monster anthem underlined why he is one of the most consistent artists of the modern era.

Those of you who had the pleasure of attending Sasha & John Digweed at 528 Ibiza last summer will be familiar with this one: a personal bootleg of Sasha's Flute remix and the vocal from CAMELPHAT's Cola.

The final track of the night last Friday, with the sound technician already giving the cue we had overrun. Short, but sweet. As it prematurely faded out, we would disperse into the night as very satisfied customers.

Has that whet your appetite? Sasha headlines Akasha this coming weekend, with support from Iban Mendoza and Gustin.

Tickets can be found below, along with other parties in the winter programme, including Friday night's Hippy House with Bastian Bux and special guests.
