Get recycling right: A guide to Ibiza’s coloured bins

From yellow to green, here’s what goes where in Ibiza’s recycling system.

Getting recycling right is one of the easiest ways to protect Ibiza's beautiful landscape during your stay. With the island generating more waste per person than any other in the Balearics, correct sorting is crucial. Taking a moment to learn the simple colour-coded system makes a real difference by helping to reduce landfill, increase recycling rates, and keep the island clean.

The island uses this colour-coding system for its rubbish bins:

- Green: Glass bottles and jars
- Grey: General waste (anything that cannot be recycled in the other bins)
- Yellow: Packaging including plastic bottles, Tetra Pak cartons, aluminium and tin cans
- Brown: Organic waste such as food scraps, garden remains, and used kitchen paper
- Blue: Paper and cardboard

Spotlight tips for pro-recyclers:
- Give containers a quick rinse to avoid contamination
- Flatten cardboard boxes to save space
- Don't put recyclables inside plastic bags in the bins

Large waste, such as mattresses, electronics, or appliances, cannot go in these bins. They should be taken to the island's recycling centre (deixalleria). The main facility is located in the industrial estate on the main Ibiza Town to San Antonio road.

By following this guide, you're directly contributing to a more sustainable Ibiza. Thank you for doing your part.
