The island's rural heart is home to the freshest produce and some of its coolest restaurants.

Situated in the very heart of the island, the super chic village of Santa Gertrudis has established itself as one of Ibiza’s gastronomic hubs, and not without good reason. In and around the village, there’s some of the best dining to be had on Ibiza, with a wide range of cuisine on offer.

The village's car-free centre is a perfect mixing place for families and friends, where kids can run amok in safety, while their parents relax and enjoy the multitude of al fresco dining options

Running the gastronomic gamut, from luxury haute cuisine and state-of-the-art health food to typical Mediterranean cuisine, family fare and classic Ibizan snacks, it offers something for any palate and pocket.

Let us guide you as we take a tour around some of our favourite restaurants in this idyllic country town.

High End

For a classy fine dining experience in the heart of Santa Gertrudis, Finca La Plaza is the ideal choice. Offering imaginative takes on classic Mediterranean food and using locally sourced produce, it’s perfect for a romantic dinner in the gorgeous setting of a traditional Ibizan Finca.

Neither cocktail bar nor restaurant in the normal sense, Overall is impossible to pigeonhole. It’s more of an open-plan workshop where its engaging owners produce food and drinks that push the gastronomic envelope. Quite simply, if you wish to experience truly ground-breaking cuisine in Ibiza, Overall is for you. With passion, innovation and creativity, its team take the freshest raw ingredients and – using traditional techniques for curing and preserving food and distilling concoctions combined with the latest technology – create utterly unique mouth-watering delicacies and drinks that delight the palate.

Just a few minutes' drive from Santa Gertrudis, we find two of the island´s most outstanding Asian restaurants. The first, Bambuddha – located on the Ibiza-San Juan Road, has an amazing "MediterrAsian" menu offering a sumptuous selection of fusion dishes, along with Thai curries, sushi and sashimi.

Just a kilometre further along the road, Nagai specialises in Japanese dishes with tantalising Thai, Italian or Mediterranean touches. With lots of tasty vegetarian and vegan options, this stylish restaurant is guaranteed to delight even the most discerning gourmand.

Mid range

Perhaps Ibiza’s hippest village, it’s no surprise Santa Gertrudis is a mecca for cutting-edge healthy food. Nowhere better fits the bill than Wild Beets, which specialises in superb raw, vegan and vegetarian food. All Wild Beets’ delicious plant-based fare uses organic, locally sourced produce that highlights super nutritional food that will satisfy both body and mind. As their simple philosophy goes: Eat well and, above all, enjoy!

Just a stone’s throw from the main square, Can Mimosa serves up delicious classic Mediterranean dishes. Its success is – in no small part – due to the ultra-fresh produce grown in its enclosed restaurant garden. Cosy and inviting, this friendly, family-run establishment is sure to tempt your taste buds!

Also central, Olivia’s Kitchen is a family-run restaurant that serves up healthy, seasonal cuisine made with love. With a menu that includes light salads, seafood ceviches, and hearty meat, fish, and rice dishes, there’s something here for everyone. The interior features colourful décor and ceramics and woodwork by local artisans while its attractive terrace is ideal for people-watching and alfresco dining. Perfect for enjoying a leisurely lunch with friends, or a romantic dinner.

Bottega Il Buco, with its rustic décor, pretty terrace, peaceful side street location and enchanting staff, is a little gem. Its menu – which extends to meats, fish, vegan and non-gluten options - comprises colourful, unusual Italian-Mediterranean dishes that are lovingly prepared and beautifully presented. Its focaccia is exceptional, the aromatic herb salad a visual and gustatory delight, and the vegetables – delicately seasoned and cooked to perfection – simply out of this world.

When it comes to informal dining in a rustic ambience, you can’t beat L’atelier nº74. Using locally sourced, organic ingredients, it is the go-to spot for healthy, hearty breakfasts, salads, sandwiches and burgers along with yummy cakes, homemade drinks and juices. And don’t forget to check out the waffles, pancakes and other treats served up by the food trucks in the adjacent Luna Park.

Lovers of chicken should check out La Chickeria, where it is served up in myriad forms including rotisserie using the restaurant’s own secret recipe. With a wide range of vegetarian options, it’s the perfect spot for eat-in or take away.

Heading out from Santa Gertrudis -  on the San Rafael Road - we find WOW. This cool, breezy, multi-functional venue enjoys a rural setting and features a garden, easy parking, abundant greenery, vintage design and lots of comfy seating. Its brasserie-style menu uses the best local and imported ingredients in an imaginative fashion. From the starters to the desserts, the food is delicious and there are plenty of dishes to share.

Located in the pedestrianised heart of Santa Gertrudis, Bar Costa is none other than an Ibiza institution. Specialising in bocadillos (sandwiches), it has a fine selection of typical Spanish hams, cecina (dried beef) and tuna. Ideal for soaking up the summer buzz in this enchanting village, people-watching, and enjoying its signature sandwiches and tapas along with a glass of wine or beer.

Another great choice is the friendly Can Ta, located in the centre of the village, which specialises in Ibizan tapas made with locally sourced produce. It also offers a midday menu and excellent rice dishes.

The village’s gastro scene wouldn’t be complete without Italian food and pizzas, which is where Zeno Ibiza comes in. All its pizzas are baked in a wood oven, feature classic recipes and employ high-quality imported Italian products. This much-rated pizzeria also offers takeaway.
