Reasons to be cheerful: Winter clubbing on Ibiza

Summer is over but there's plenty to be upbeat about.

Summer is over. Anybody still on the island will confirm that's definitely the case in regards to the weather. But while the percentage of tourists has shrunk drastically in the past two weeks, the number of party offerings has bubbled along quite nicely.

Before we take a closer look at what's coming up, let's briefly recap the short, but brilliant, 2021 summer clubbing season.

Recap

  • Amnesia's opening and closing weekend, which took place from the afternoon of Friday 22 October to the early-hours of Sunday 24 October, was a giant success. Although Amnesia chose to condense the action into 35 hours, it was the blinding light at the end of a dark tunnel we had been stuck in for two years.

  • DC10 was a roadblock for all three of its Monday Circoloco parties, which took place on 11, 18 and 25 October respectively. Fortunately, the chaotic scenes witnessed at the first were rectified for the second and third. Once inside, it was like we'd never been away. Pure hedonism.
  • Eden, which was the first club to reopen on 8 October, continues with weekend parties up to this coming weekend. Since then, it has brought a selection of A-listers (Roger Sanchez, wAFF, Bushwacka!) and seasoned residents, to make a real statement about its ambitions for the future.
  • In Playa d'en Bossa, Octan Ibiza stuck to its script as the home of basement clubbing on Ibiza. Stand-out appearances from East End Dubs, Richy Ahmed, Anna Tur and Dan Ghenacia emphasised the focus on the music and vibe, dispensing with pomp and ceremony - and all at a very reasonable price.

What's coming up later in 2021

This weekend just gone, we had the pleasure of attending Ibiza's newest club space, Akasha, located at Las Dalias in San Carlos. After only four events, Akasha is already a certified hit.

Transformed from an empty box into a super stylish, high-spec space, Akasha promises top quality DJ line-ups each weekend throughout winter.

While it's a slight departure from the psytrance and acoustic vibe that Las Dalias was known for in the past, the modern design and exceptional sound quality are welcome additions to Ibiza's nightlife. We were lucky enough to catch Valentín Huedo and Sébastien Léger on Friday, both of whom did the new club justice.

Matthias Tanzmann and the return of go-go dancers!

Eden, which had continued with The Zoo Project-produced UNITY on Fridays as well as Saturday nights up to last weekend, wrapped up its autumn programme with a final WNDRLND party on 6 November. Local heroes Andy Baxter and Jason Bye played b2b.

Lío Ibiza kicked-off its club schedule on Halloween with a Melon Bomb takeover. Now, the Ibiza Marina venue continues with Friday and Saturday nights all the way to Christmas. Ibiza Talents look after the former and DJ Oliver's Pandora the latter.

Then on 31 December, Sebastian Gamboa is the host for Vintage on New Year's Eve - the first confirmed party taking place on Ibiza to wave goodbye to 2021 and see in 2022.

That's not all, though, because we've just had confirmation of another biggie. Circoloco NYD is back at DC10 on 1 January 2022. We couldn't think of a better good omen for the year ahead. Normality could well be restored.

New Year's Day at DC10 is a rite of passion for anybody currently uninitiated. We can hear you searching for flights as you read! No line-up yet, but it goes from 16:00 to 05:00 - 13 unadulterated hours. We anticipate more parties being added to this period in the coming weeks.

Further ahead

Already, the first green shoots of summer 2022 are starting to sprout.

Eden's neighbour, Es Paradis, which didn't open in 2021, has already confirmed an Opening Party for Sunday 1 May 2022. The most intriguing thing, is that Es Paradis is seemingly going back to its roots by starting early in the afternoon and rolling right through to the next morning!

Details are thin on the ground at the moment, but we'll report on the particulars once they're in the public domain.

Clearly, 1 May represents an earlier than usual start for Es Paradis, but with Easter falling late in mid-April next year, there's a suggestion that we might get the earliest ever start to the clubbing season.
