12 of the best country hotels on Ibiza

If it’s tranquillity and peace you’re after, it’s time to head inland!

Ibiza may be most famous for its glorious beaches – but did you know that the White Isle's countryside is just as beautiful?

From majestic mountains to fragrant forests and rolling fields – known locally as the ‘campos de Ibiza' – away from the coastline you are entering another world entirely.

Over the last ten years, the popularity of countryside hotels as an alternative to the island's vibrant resorts has increased dramatically. And where there is demand, supply follows, with beautiful rural accommodation options springing up all over Ibiza.

These fall into two different categories: former working farms known as ‘agroturismos', and traditional Ibicencan country houses that have been converted into ‘hoteles rurales'.

Agroturismos

The term ‘agroturismo' originated in Italy and was traditionally used to describe working farms that were letting out bedrooms to visitors. Over the past decade, Ibiza has taken this simple concept to a whole new level, with countryside-dwelling holidaymakers not having to miss out on any creature comforts.

Hoteles Rurales

The ‘hoteles rurales' are – technically speaking - closest in nature to the traditional Bed & Breakfast. Ibicencan country houses that have been beautifully converted into hotel accommodation, they vary in size and style - and not all of them have their own restaurants. You will be able to enjoy a hearty breakfast, but might have to venture out for lunch and dinner (thank God there is no shortage of amazing restaurants to try on Ibiza!)

However, don't expect B&B prices when booking the ‘hotel rural' of your dreams! This is Ibiza, after all, and the peaceful sceneries, tranquillity, and country chic design can come at a higher cost than you might be used to.

The best of both worlds – country hotels close to Ibiza Town

Casa Maca

The sprawling Casa Maca resort offers countryside living on the doorstep of the island's cosmopolitan capital, Ibiza Town. The 300-year-old main building has been lovingly preserved, with the original olive oil mill on display next to the reception area.

There are only 10 rooms, but Casa Maca packs a punch in the style stakes. The infinity pool has stunning views on the iconic silhouette of Dalt Vila, which can also be enjoyed from the cool Airstream cocktail bar and the atmospheric onsite grill restaurant.

Hotel Rural Xereca

Just a stone's throw away from the glamorous Marina Botafoch and super clubs like Pacha, Hotel Rural Xereca offers a modern take on the country accommodation concept.

Offering plenty of space and quiet, the rooms and suites are designed with a minimalist approach to country chic but offer close access to nature with private patios and even outdoor bathrooms that open up to surrounding gardens and countryside – while maintaining complete privacy.

Thanks to its tranquil location, Hotel Xereca also hosts wellness days and yoga sessions for outside visitors at the Bali-inspired facilities. An outdoor pool, sun terrace, bar and restaurant complete the offering.

Las Mariposas

Charming, colourful and with some quirky design details, Las Mariposas is a warm and welcoming place to make your island base. The rooms have an eclectic and bohemian vibe, with each boasting its own unique style.

The yellow main building is surrounded by quintessential Mediterranean gardens and overlooks the outdoor swimming pool, with views onto the surrounding orchards.

The rooms have a modern rustic style and are simple, yet cozy. Around the striking swimming pool at the heart of the resort, there are ample opportunities to lounge on comfortable sofas or enjoy a drink from the bar.

C'an Toni Xumeu's onsite restaurant La Era offers ‘farm to table' contemporary haute cuisine made from fresh, local produce.
