Talamanca Beach: carefree Ibiza spirit

The lowdown

One of the longest sweeping beaches on the island, Talamanca makes up one of the home beaches of Ibiza Town. The sand is fine and golden and the waters, clear and aquamarine, glimmer softly in the sun. As day becomes evening the area takes on a magical air as the sun starts to set. The wooden boardwalk at the back helps you navigate the length and breadth of this strip without burning your feet on the hot sand in summer. Talamanca Beach definitely has a good slice of the carefree spirit that pervades the island.

Summer like anywhere on the island means busier beaches, though if you get here before lunchtime you'll be sure to bag a spot. Families with kids come here because of the safe waters, plus you'll spot some cool cats and often the odd partygoer in post club recovery mode: it's a great place to watch people go by.

Talamanca Beach has a good selection of restaurants and café's stretched along its length for either a full meal or a quick snack. Look out for Bar Flotante for an inexpensive breakfast or Ginger, the Asian food bar set in the grounds of the pricier, though worth it, Sa Punta restaurant.

In winter this stretch of sand becomes a place for pleasant walks to take in the almost-raw nature of the rocky Sa Punta at the beach's end, stopping at the small cafes on the way. You'll also catch a few groups barbecuing their lunch and taking in the warming winter sun.

There's a good wealth of hotels from the budget priced and fun Talamanca Hostel to the new for 2016 OD Talamanca 5-star and Destino, the luxurious resort from Pacha. It's a popular place for hotels as it combines a pretty beach with closeness to the biggest town on the island; you'll find more hotels here. In fact, Talamanca is developing fast as more luxury developments move in slowly. If you've never been here, go now and return to see it as it grows.
