The Dish is Deep, Their Sound is too

Everybody likes Deep Dish. The duo obviously lavish so much attention onto their musical productions, advertising design and dj sets that it would be churlish not to respond with love and noisy appreciation.

So it was at their opening, as much of Ibiza's clubbing industry personnel and other fans gathered at the opening of DD's Yoshitoshi new fortnightly residency at Pacha last Thursday (July 1).

The duo are touting a hot new rock-hybrid sound, best exemplified by their current single, the blistering 'Flashdance'. Just in case you were wondering, yes it isn't a reworking of the 80s trash classic by Irene Cara but a breathy rock vocal framed in such a way as to cause maximum modern dancefloor pandemonium. They kept the excitement levels consistently high throughout their set with their innovative re-rubs and re-edits. Not for them the thrashing of stale remixes of yore - most everything sounded so fresh and clean on Pacha's crystal clear sound system.

The clubbing brand is clearly going through a purple patch at the moment. Their desire to excel in both the basics and the important little details of organising a decent night out is really paying off for them in terms of loyalty and customer satisfaction. The billboards and poster campaigns are slick and enticing, and have become a real feature of the Ibiza Town landscape.

The Yoshitoshi one in particular looks groovy with its giant sexy Japanese girls set in a futuristic cartoon landscape. Image design is an oft neglected part of Ibiza marketing campaigns as many big promoters rely on their past reputations to fill their club nights, without doing anything to entice a new generation who might require a bit of coaxing.

You want to feel as if by attending a night you have bought a share in something cool, and the Yoshitoshi posters certainly engender this feeling, wrapping around, taking a hold of your heart, where the pictures come alive and you can dance right through your life…
