Review: Fuse at Space, 2nd June

The warm, intimate Space terrazza becomes a powerhouse of sound.

When Sankeys Ibiza announced their six wonders of Sankeys, with only the Wednesday spot free, the question on everyone's lips was "what about FUSE?". After a successful first full season on Wednesdays in 2013, Fuse moved to Tuesdays and ran into stiff competition from Carl Cox at Space, Together at Amnesia and Defected resulting in lower numbers than originally expected.
In an interview with us at Ibiza Spotlight, David Vincent (owner of Sankeys) made it clear that he didn't want to loose FUSE from the venue but in the end it was a mutual agreement between the club and the label.

Enter Space, the island's most complete clubbing experience. As soon as it was announced FUSE would hold a three date residency at the club, (as well as three outdoor parties across the summer) the labels loyal followers were in full support of the decision. If there is a room that compliments the FUSE bass heavy sound, it's Space terrace.

After a heavy weekend and very few hours sleep, I stepped into the terrace at the 4am mark, catching the last few minutes of tINI who was gliding around the booth in her usual fashion. The terrace was an ocean of red with blue lasers occasionally zig-zagging across the finger tips of a packed out dance floor. FUSE and the promoters also made use of the brick wall behind the booth, projecting the labels logo alongside trippy visuals (other promoters at Space should do this more often). For such a big room, FUSE created a warm intimate setting, making the room feel no bigger than their current home in London, Village Underground.

Following on from tINI was FUSE's star-men Enzo Siragusa and Seb Zito who went back-to-back in superb style until close at 6.30am. The duo traded blows putting together a set that built as it went on dropping in a number of chugging bass lines complimented by some snappy percussion and tingling hi-hats. There was some new and old FUSE label material mixed in alongside Livo & Roby's Machiners and Phil Weeks Robosoul remix of I Refuse - What You Want which absolutely went off towards the end of their set.

I've attended a number of the openings and the vibe and the music at FUSE was as good, if not better than some of the major club openings. As the summer goes on, expect the FUSE family to still have huge presence on the island as they move away from a weekly residency and take up the less is more approach.

Fuse returns to Space Ibiza on Tuesday June 23rd, bringing Julian Perez, Livio & Roby, Enzo Siragusa, Seb Zito, Rich NxT, Rossko, Archie Hamilton and Dan Farserelli along for the ride.
