SPTL149: Brett Jacobs

The Luna Records artists produces an exclusive mix filled with stripped back, dubby house. Exclusives and unreleased tracks aplenty.

The Mix

Talk us through the track selection of the mix.

"The mix is a basically a reflection of the sound I love to play and also produce. The mix starts off very stripped back and dubby and builds with energy as it progresses. Most tracks are from friends of mine, some of which we will be released, and some which won't ;)"

Where and how was the mix recorded?

"The mix was recorded at a friends house recently on a basic setup using Traktor Vinyl."

What are the musical influences that have have allowed you to arrive at this mix?

"Most of my musical influences over the past few years have been up and coming DJ's and friends of mine. We have a close circuit of friends who all enjoy the same music and it allows us to produce both tracks and mixes with quite a unique distinct sound."

The Plug

What is keeping you busy at the moment? Update us on where you're at production wise.

"Production wise, Im very busy at the moment trying to finish some collaboration's with people and finishing up some solo tracks before I start work on my next projects. I have my 'Preserve the Light EP' with Patrice Meiner which has just been released on Luna Records and also my 'Mutra EP' coming out end of July on Act Natural Records."

You have a weekend off in ibiza. What do you do? Where do you go?

"There is never a weekend off in ibiza, maybe a day! If so then I like to go a chill on a beach away from the madness. Either Talamanca or the quiet end of salinas are two of my favourite spots. Then maybe head for some thai food in town or down to probably my favourite restaurant on the island, the Fish Shack… then Sleep!!"

You'll be playing over in Ibiza this summer right? Where should we head to check you out?

"Yes, I'll be playing every Sunday at Sankey's for VIVa Warriors and Departure. I'll also be playing at various other spots which I can't announce yet, but keep up to date on my Facebook page!"

Proof that the island is the place to be during the summer months, you've actually made the semi-permanent move here. What advantages does this give you, or any other DJ that makes Ibiza their home for the season?

"For me, the main reason for moving to the island is to be around the people who are influencing me musically and to be able to network and spend time with people who all have so much passion for the same thing. Then, there is the fact that it is such a beautiful place and away from the club scene there is so much more to see and do."

Sankeys has developed into an island favourite over the last few seasons, what is about the space that you love?

"THE SOUND! I think this is why most of the DJ's have fallen in love with Sankeys since it has opened. The club focus' on the sound before anything else - which is so important. The low ceilings in the basement means sound doesn't get lost like it does in the bigger venues and makes for a much more intimate party."

"Thanks for having me and enjoy the mix!"
