On Thursday 1 October 2026, Ibiza Outdoors founder Toby Clarke will set off on his final Around the Island Ibiza Adventure as lead guide, 16 years after his first journey around Ibiza’s coastline inspired the creation of Walking Ibiza, now Ibiza Outdoors.
In October 2010, Toby set out with his dog Cosmo to take on the Ibiza coast. Carrying a backpack, food for the first day and only €1 in his pocket to see him through, he hiked over 200 kilometres, navigating the twists, turns and diversions the island offers - all in just 11 days.
With little more than what he carried on his back, Toby put his trust in the island and was met with extraordinary generosity. Restaurants and locals offered food, water, conversation, support, and encouragement, and while the island's natural beauty continued to stun, some of his most memorable moments were from these interactions.
He returned with the same €1 still in his pocket, but with an experience that would completely change the direction of his life, and a philosophy that has stayed with him ever since: “Trust in Ibiza and Ibiza will trust in you.”

Afterwards, people began asking him to guide them and show the Ibiza he had discovered. Those first walks grew into Walking Ibiza, the first company dedicated to commercial guided walking on the island. Now, 16 years later and for the 14th time, Toby is preparing to lead the journey for one last time.
“That first walk changed everything,” says Toby. “I set off with Cosmo, one euro in my pocket and enough food for the first day. There was no plan to create a walking company. To think that 16 years later I’ll be setting off again with another group for my final Around the Island as lead guide is pretty incredible.”
From Walking Ibiza to Ibiza Outdoors
A lot has changed since 2010. Walking Ibiza has grown and evolved into Ibiza Outdoors, reflecting the shift in how holidaymakers wish to experience the island. Now a much broader range of outdoor experiences, including hiking, kayaking, e-biking, community walks, group activities, events and multi-day adventures.
But walking remains at the heart of Ibiza Outdoors, and the Around the Island Adventure is the placeholder for where it all began.
Toby’s last lap does not mean the end of the adventure. Future Around the Island Ibiza trips will continue with other Ibiza Outdoors guides, while Toby will continue guiding other walks and experiences. Ibiza Outdoors also runs Around the Island adventures in Formentera and Menorca.
This October is therefore less a goodbye than a passing of the baton: 16 years after that first adventure with Cosmo, Toby will make one final full circuit of Ibiza and hand the route on to the next generation of guides.
