How to celebrate the New Year on Ibiza 2021

From dusk on December 31st ‘til dawn on January 2nd, there are a lot of different ways to ring in 2022 in style.

After eating and drinking our merry way through the Christmas holidays, come December 31st many of us will be itching to get off the sofa and shake off the festive lethargy.

Thankfully, Ibiza doesn’t do its New Year’s celebration by halves. From the last day of 2021 all the way through to January 2nd – and probably even longer than that if you have the stamina – there are a variety of activities, events, special NYE menus and parties waiting for you!

Happy New Year!

December 31st

Limber up…

Start your New Year’s Eve celebrations on Ibiza early with a healthy walk through the island’s beautiful countryside that will blow away any Christmas cobwebs. Walking Ibiza will take you to the fascinating ruins of The Lost City close to San Mateu. Founder Toby Clarke will lead you through vineyards and fragrant forests until you reach the ancient settlement erected by the Moors. Starting at 10:00 the walk will take around three hours to complete and is followed by a three-course lunch (optional). Bookings need to be made online in advance.

For a fun and quirky way to race towards 2022, why not enter the annual run to the cathedral at the top of the historic core of Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town? The annual tradition sees islanders run the 2,300m from the port of Ibiza all the way up to the top of the UNESCO World Heritage site – fancy dress optional! Registration is free and the fun begins at 16:30, with all participants being entered into a raffle to win prizes donated by local business.

Culinary delights

After such a healthy start to the last day of the year, it’s time to get your gourmet on, with many fabulous New Year’s Eve menus available across the island.

Head to harbour hotspot MIRA Ibiza for a modern Mediterranean cuisine menu, a vibrant atmosphere, great music and views on the beautiful boats moored in the glamorous Marina Botafoch yacht harbour.

The rustic chic Cas Costas Restaurant & Grill on the road to San Jose is serving up a feast of elevated Mediterranean and Spanish meat and vegetarian dishes by the fireplace for an evening the whole family can enjoy.

Glamorous retro jungle cocktail bar, restaurant and fashion store WOW near Santa Gertrudis is putting on an extra fabulous evening to swing into 2022, Studio 54 style! Put on your best party outfit and celebrate with drinks, dinner and deliciously funky music.

Meanwhile, new Vietnamese and Japanese fusion eatery Coto in Sant Rafael is hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration with a mouth-watering tasting menu and live acoustic music by Rebeka Brown, followed by an after party in the onsite boutique clubbing space with DJ Clint Lee on the decks.

Hit the floor

The opulent Lio Ibiza is helping its guests to make the transition from dining to dancing in one fell swoop with their signature programme of cabaret, culinary delights and captivating after-dinner beats spun by the lovely Lunnas sisters and Sebastian Gamboa.

Over in Bossa, Octan offers up some high energy techno and tech house beats with Oxia, Francisco Allendes and Los Dos on deck duty to keep you going until the early hours of 2022.

January 1st

The fun continues…

One of Ibiza’s most beloved New Year’s traditions is the annual ‘first bath of the year on Salinas beach, which has been organised by Vino & Co for the past ten years on January 1st. Due to health and safety regulations, this year participants are encouraged to stay within their own groups, and those wanting to enjoy a little beach picnic can pick up a goodie bag at the Ibiza Town store for €10 including a hand-printed Vino & Co bag, a bottle of AIX wine OR a bottle of GOLDTOOTH vermouth, four glasses, a bag of crisps, a tin of olives or some cookies. 5€ from each bag sold will be donated directly to Proyecto Juntos, a charitable organisation supporting a variety of good causes.

A New Year’s institution, it wouldn’t be January 1st without a rave at the iconic DC10. This year, the Circoloco gang is blasting 2022 wide open with the likes of Adriatique, Bambounou, Cici, Interstellar Funk, Tania Volcano and more. See the full line-up here.

January 2nd

The beat goes on…

Those who still have some pep left in their step on January 2nd can make their way down to the golden shores of Playa d’en Bossa. Together with the Keep On Dancing crew, seaside institution Bora Bora is putting on Dia Dos (Day Two) from 16:00 until 5:00 on January 3rd. So far, Richy Ahmed is the only name that has been released, but that’s good enough for us to make our way down there.
