Busy Ibiza Airport

Ibiza's International airport has just had one of its busiest weekends of the year

Ibiza's International airport has just had one of its busiest weekends of the year. On average a plane took off or landed every four minutes during the two days of high activity at the end of the August holidays.

Nearly 105,000 passengers passed the doors, a couple of percent more than last year, and as you can imagine, the authorities were well prepared to handle such a large influx of people.

Queues to check in for planes to Britain, which use the new part of the departures terminal, stretched out onto the pavement and the building was packed to capacity.

Shops in the airport reported low takings and blamed it on the fact that so many people were finishing their holidays - a complete contrast to the weekend at the beginning of August when all the happy holidaymakers were arriving in 'spend, spend, spend' mode.

Happily the airport is now back to normality and ready and waiting to receive the thousands of vacationers who arrive for a calmer holiday in September and October.
