The processions are an Easter tradition in Spain, and also in Ibiza, where the faithful form a procession and carry statues of Jesus and patron saints on beautifully decorated platforms throughout the streets, accompanied by masked and hooded devotees.
The solemn music and torches add to the atmosphere.
In Ibiza town, for example, this very moving procession leaves the cathedral mid evening and very slowly winds its way down to the Portal de ses Taules and on to Vara de Rey. You'll find other "Stations of the Cross" processions in the villages of Santa Eulalia and Sant Francesc, in Formentera.
The main processions are carried out in the three locations on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (on the evening) and Easter Sunday (on the morning).
Other villages such as Puig d'en Valls, San Miguel, San Mateo and Sant Jordi, also organise religious events, such as masses or small processions. You can find these details here (in Spanish).
