Rewind to a decade ago in Utrecht, a city in The Netherlands, where a group of young music lovers sought a safe place to party and share a particular kind of underground music they were obsessing over. That collective became known as SlapFunk.
In the years since, the SlapFunk movement has relocated to Amsterdam and gone from a DIY mentality to one of the most in-demand club brands to emerge from northern Europe. It now throws parties in most territories around the world, continuing to grow at an exponential rate.
After flirting with the likes of Akasha, Pikes and 528 in recent years, SlapFunk crashes into Playa Soleil in 2026 for its longest summer on the island yet.
The SlapFunk "sound" is more of a philosophy, than restricting it to a single genre. Simply, it is music that slaps with an element of Funk. That could be Minimal, UKG, Bass or even Hip-Hop, if the mood were right.
To give you a better an idea of the profile of artist associated with the party, the label has released music by Mella Dee, Anil Aras, Ingi Visions and founder and resident Samuel Deep and his brother and deputy Julian Alexander.
SlapFunk lands at Playa Soleil for its first party on Sunday 10 May with more dates TBA.
