Preview: Glitterbox at Booom, July 2014

Glitter. Disco. Disco-balls. Glittery-disco-balls. Glittery-disco-balls on Ibiza. What's not to like?.

Some people come to Ibiza for the huge productions, the superstar DJs, the crazy laser shows and the inescapable ice cannons… others just come to dance.

There's no better place for it than Glitterbox. We Spotlighters have made several appearances at Booom Saturday nights this season and we still keep coming back for more. Yes, we have seen artists like X-Press 2, Dimitri From Paris, Greg Wilson and Horse Meat Disco who are all champions of the classic house, disco and re-edit scene in their own right, but for the most part they were the sideshow to what turned into a few nights of easily accessible, no nonsense but plenty of silly behaviour, nights of tomfoolery and mischief-making. Lovely stuff.

As much as we love a good techno rave at 10am in a packed, sweaty crowd that has turned into a marathon night out, we also quite like a bit of space on the dancelfoor to swing around under a disco ball, releasing our inner stresses from the standard working week to a soundtrack that is perfectly selected to please the wide age range of punters with feet on the floor.

PLAYLIST | A choice selection of tracks to paint the aural soundscape of Glitterbox Saturdays at Booom!

The lines blur between VIP at non-VIP like only disco music can do, the club dancers can be visibly seen to thrive off music that isn't just banging house or techno and you'll realise that at any point, no less than 90% of the people in the club are grinning their faces off and explaiming to their mate next to them about how good the tunes are and how nice it is to be given the opprtunity to funky disco spin. Who doesn't love funky disco spins? Nobody, absolutely nobody.

If any of this sounds enticing to you, they have some great line-ups coming up from the party. This coming Saturday sees the first date from British DJ Joey Negro, known previously as Jakatta of American Dream fame, Kenny Dope, Mo Funk, Ibizan legend DJ Pippi and Shovell on live percussion. The week later, Saturday 19th July, will be the playground for The Shapeshifters (remember Lola's Theme!?), Copyright, Late Night Tuff Guy, and island resident DJ Antz. Looking one week further, to Saturday 26th July - and to a party we're certainly going to attend - we see a beauty of a line-up. Hercules & Love Affair, ft. respected DJ Kim Ann Foxman, will perform live, with Joey Negro, Dimitri From Paris and Defected label boss (the team behind Glitterbox Saturdays at Booom) Simon Dunmore. Big.

You've got every night of the week to rave until sun-up and sun-down, why not mix it up with some disco fun times at Glitterbox? Your feet, heart and soul will thank you.

Tickets are priced at 40€ for all dates apart from those in August peak season which stand at 45€, where the island and line-ups reflect how busy it is.
