Anybody paying attention won't need telling that summer 2025 has been unlike any we've seen before, here on Ibiza. During a season of unprecedented revelations, twists and turns, one that has buoyed San Antonio, has been the arrival of Todd Terry's Freeze Project.
After guesting at other promoter's parties for year, most notably Defected and Glitterbox, the veteran DJ and one of House music's founding fathers has launched his own residency.

We met up on the panoramic Rooftop 9 bar of the INNSiDE Ibiza Beach hotel in San Antonio Bay.
There, we would reminisce a little about the old days, chat about a lifetime of service to dance music and discuss what he has planned for the remaining dates on Wednesday nights at Eden.

Thank you for joining us at Ibiza Spotlight. After almost 40 years in the dance music scene, do you still get the same buzz as the early days of House and Acid?
"Wow. Big question! I think that it comes and goes. You'll have like a good ten years and then it might fizzle out a bit, but it has to come back. So, right now, the House music thing is back. It feels good again, and I'm glad that it's like this.
We need it. We need good music back, and it's like a resurgence of people being into it. I'm really excited when I'm playing. I think, 'they really like that. So, they're gonna LOVE this!'"

And I think it's nice to see more of a younger generation appreciating that…
"I definitely see younger kids in the front.
You're sitting there thinking, okay, these kids are young. Like, are they gonna like this shit? And you throw it in. You're like, cool - they're vibing with me. If you take the old songs and make them a little hotter and faster for the kids, they're able to relate to it."
When was the first year that you came to Ibiza?
"I wanna say ‘93-ish. Somewhere around there."
You've coming for a while then, which means you must have seen a massive change since that time.
"Yeah, some of these buildings were not even here. Let's be honest. The island was a little bit more flat than it is now. So, it’s crazy how it has just evolved."

What does the island mean to you?
"Well, the island is like my alternative to playing London and all these other places. You come here, you get a whole different vibe - you're kind of like answering to your whole musical elements. I'm adding on to Ibiza’s style.
I give it a style. You're playing funky, you're playing more Latin stuff as well too, which comes across the dancefloor really well. African house and stuff like that. You're mixing it up a little bit more.
Other places you're more banging it out. But, here, you're mixing it up."

After so many years of playing here, why was 2025 the summer to launch your own residency, Freeze Project, at Eden?
"I've done residencies before, but you know, now I just kind of want to just do it for fun. So, it's really about me and my friends DJing and hanging out. Just having fun. Not money-makers, just more like fun-makers…
So, we were bored so we thought, let's go and spend some money and hang out and DJ! Why not…?"
Wednesdays are notoriously a tough night on Ibiza with some serious competition. What can clubbers expect at your Eden nights?
"I mean, in Ibiza, I don't think there's a tough night. Yeah, I would have took Monday. I don't care. It's a vibe where, you know, you wake up at two o'clock in the morning and say, 'What's happening right now?' And people just come out to the club.
So, it doesn't matter what day it is. You get up and go. Yeah. So, I think that's the reason why I did it. Wednesday, Sunday, I would have done any of those days just because I know people are here.
I feel like that when I'm here. I get up and I'm like, 'Oh, who's playing? Who's playing right now?' You don't care what day it is, but weekdays are more banging!"

We were at the opening and Angelo Ferrari absolutely killed it. Who else should we be checking out on a Wednesday that might not be on our radar yet?
"Oh, well, we had Mark Knight. We got Kevin Sanderson coming. We got Doc Martin, Majestic, Fat Tony and Janika Tenn. We got a lot of different names, a lot of different flavours, but still in a House vein.
I don't care if you're the highest Techno DJ coming to play for me, you're going to play House tonight. It's going to be a House set. And they like that, because they don't always get a chance to do it. They're probably great House DJs, but they just never get the chance.
That's why I put them on."
What’s the biggest track blowing up on the Freeze Project dancefloor so far this summer?
"Oh, that’s easy. Low Steppa & Capri's Got The Funk."
Where is your favourite place to escape to in Ibiza between your gigs?
"I like going around Talamanca. I like that side. Yeah, eating at the Fish Shack. I like that vibe over there. I guess it’s more family-driven and everything like that. But it's another world from the whole beating-you-up world. So, I like that side over there."
Yeah, you have to make sure you get that balance on this island…
"Yeah, unless you want to drive yourself crazy. You can’t party every damn day… You're gonna die!
I've been sober for ten years between 39 and 49 and I have witnesses. I really did it. I just acted like I was drunk and high. You know? I didn't have nothing. You get drunk for so many years, you can fake it."
Thank you ever so much, Todd..
"Thank you. We love y'all."

There are six more opportunities to dance in the presence of DJ royalty, including tonight's party with K-Klass, Sam Supplier Dr Feelgood and more.
In addition to Freeze Project at Eden, you can also catch Todd at Glitterbox at the end of the August.
