Friday Market Stalls?

San Antonio Council's plans to give its new(ish) market place

San Antonio Council's plans to give its new(ish) market place a boost is under threat from intransigent stall holders in the town. The council wants the little hippy market stalls which nightly line the promenade by the ferries to move one night a week.

They'd like them to set up every Friday in the Mercat de Ses Places area behind the church and along the street - Carrer Ample – which has not long since been pedestrianised. It's part of a policy to smarten up and regenerate the area which now boasts some excellent speciality shops and typically Spanish bars and restaurants.

The problem is that the 20 or so market traders don't want to go there as they reckon that they'd lose money from the passing trade on the promenade. Well, they'll never know unless they try it and they may well be forced to. The council's contracts with them stipulate that they have to move to the new market on Fridays in July, August and September. Watch this space.
