Preview: Flying Circus Ibiza at Sankeys, Tuesday 28th May

We look ahead at this year's first instalment of Flying Circus in Ibiza and speak to the headliner, Carl Craig.

Contrary to other party labels that grew their name through doing events in Ibiza, with Flying Circus it worked the other way around. Even though Audiofly, the creative heads behind the project, have been Ibiza residents for years, their party label Flying Circus basically started to get attention when parties in many different locations around the globe were thrown. During the winter just past, Flying Circus got a lot of momentum going with their international events and impressive line ups and the brand is now embarking on their next adventure - a full Ibiza residency at Sankeys.

Before starting their Friday night residency on the 12th of July, Flying Circus are already teasing punters with a fantastic prelude, happening next Tuesday the 28th of May. Having witnessed the improvements made at Sankeys when checking out their opening parties we were pretty impressed, especially with the L.A.B. which used to be called the Box. A few great changes were made to the room and now it's a superb dancefloor!

The line up for Flying Circus' early season warm-up is an extremely tasty one and should definitely keep people going, even after the opening party marathon on the days prior to the fiesta. The Basement will enjoy sonic treatment courtesy of Martin Buttrich, Maayan Nidam, a live set of Avatism. And of course the aforementioned Audiofly will grace the decks too. Meanwhile, over in the L.A.B., Carl Craig, Lee Burridge, Blond:ish and Ultrasone are set to keep everyone dancing.

In the run up to the event, we quickly spoke to Carl Craig. Here's what he thinks about Flying Circus...

How do you expect Sankeys Ibiza to compare to the other super clubs you've played out here? Are you looking forward to a slightly more intimate venue?

"I have heard good things of Sankeys Ibiza although I dont like to have expectations, so i'm surprised every time. I am looking forward to playing an intimate space and for the Flying Circus crew."

We keep on getting juicy rumours about the Flying Circus Ibiza line ups for 2013, is there anyone on the bill with you that you're particularly looking forward to seeing?

"I haven't seen the full season line-ups yet, but if you mean for the opening party, it's always great to see the Audiofly guys and Martin (Buttrich)."

Can you recall a favourite Flying Circus party you've played in the past?

"All of them!"

There's been hype about Flying Circus being the next Circoloco… what do you think about that?

"I don't believe the hype and don't pay too much attention on what others are saying. Concentrate on doing your own thing; Circoloco is an established brand that grew from its Ibiza roots and ventured to the world; Flying Circus has the potential of being the next IT thing on the island and the excitement is inspiring."

You recently took part in a Rinse FM takeover, how did that come about? How was it?

"It was to promote my forthcoming Masterpiece compilation, which is coming out late June. They let me do my own thing and the takeover was great! I had a lot of fun, which is the main thing :)"

See you at Sankeys on Tuesday!
