On Friday 16 October, Ethereal invites Carl Cox and Christopher Coe's Awesome Soundwave - a label dedicated exclusively to live electronic music performers.
Coe himself will be joined by former Diynamic affiliate Stimming and Minilogue member Sebastian Mullaert (pictured above) for a live back-to-back-to-back from open to close.
For once, we're casting the role of the DJ to the sideline and placing the focus on an entirely different skillset.
Rather than select and mix other people's music, live acts recreate their own tracks in the moment, replicating some conditions from the studio, whilst adjusting others to entertain an audience. Live sets may still use some recordings, but the prompts are done off-the-cuff and allow for improvisation.
Consider it the crossover where a live band meets electronic music production.
The result is a unique dancefloor experience, which is part club-night, part concert. With one live act, you might know roughly what to expect. With two, you introduce some unpredictability. But with three, well, who knows where they will take us?
Such are the number of variables, it's unlikely that such a performance could be replicated again, even if all three components tried. That's the true beauty of this format.
It's important to stress, that there is no suggestion that Carl Cox himself is going to be in attendance. However, with him having played both Nocturna and The Bunker at [UNVRS] unannounced this summer, we couldn't rule out the possibility completely!
