A taste of ... The Beach, Ushuaïa

A leisurely, intimate afternoon of Mexican flavours, music and the best tequila we've ever tasted.

To celebrate the reopening of The Beach restaurant at Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, the Spotlight crew were invited down for lunch to sample the new dining concept for 2023. Not forgetting to mention the chance to indulge in some delicious Margaritas and some of the finest tequilas and mezcals money can buy!

On top of a base of deliciously fresh oysters done three ways, we were treated to 13 (yes thirteen!) courses of authentic Mexican street food (antojitos), finessed by the deft fingers of chef Roberto Ruiz and The Beach, Ushuaïa team.

Roberto has put together a range of dishes that will be added to the permanent menu for 2023 and that perfectly captures the spirit and spice of Mexico. The dishes we tried are perfect for a hot, summer lunch by the sea and you will be able to try some the next time you visit this stunning restaurant.

Firstly, a mention of the venue. Spreading from the magnificent Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, right up to the golden sand of Ibiza's longest beach Playa d’en Bossa, diners are shaded by a canopy of bamboo and colourful bougainvillaea. It’s a very relaxing space in which to escape the searing heat of the middle of the day.

On this occasion, our extensive lunch was hosted and punctuated by a crew of seductive lampshades, tribal goddesses, dancing roses and futuristic biker babes. Exactly the kind of imaginative surrealism you come to expect from a hotel with a reputation for innovation in performance and glamorous style.

For lovers of Mexican cuisine, you will find the food was delicate, subtle and with a good amount of chilli when it was needed. Not insanely hot, but just about right…

An abundance of lime, red onion and mango embued many of the dishes with that light, fruity yet zingy flavour of summer.

The choice of tropical-flavoured guacamoles was a really nice touch. As were the variety of tacos on offer, including al pastor, octopus and tuna.

But the Star of the Show Award went undoubtedly to the soft-shell crab tacos – an absolutely jaw-dropper!

A divine sea bass coated in two types of chilli sauce – the green fillet in Poblano Salsa and the red in Guajillo Salsa

The unexpected touch of something sweet...

The whole happy The Beach team

We hope our gallery of images tempts you the next time you fancy something a little different for your beach lunch on Ibiza. Just don your sombrero and book a table at The Beach, Ushuaia Ibiza Hotel.
