The 7 best places for vegetarian food on Ibiza

Fresh and wild

When you go on holiday, there is still a shortage of variety and originality in many of the places offering good vegetarian food. Many restaurants here offer some great dishes, but if its choice you want, you'd be better off hunting down some good places to get your meatless fill. Here we have a selection of some top Ibiza veggie and vegan haunts, from simple take-away places to traditional restaurant style. A couple of the places offer meat and fish, but they are both plants first. From the single "vegetarian option" of the past, we're now seeing meat as the option. Onwards with the revolution it seems.

Ecocentro - Santa Gertrudis

Yummy organic vegetarian food in a magnificent open outside space in this recent arrival in Santa Gertrudis. There's a range of menus from the set, the fixed price and the evening one. At night time, look out for the wild mushroom “bavette” or the delicious-sounding truffled spinach ravioli with fresh pesto. This place has live acts on Thursdays and Fridays and also offers free yoga and mediation classes. It's a great excuse to go out, relax and eat guilt free.

Out of Time People, Ibiza Town

At the foot of Ibiza's fortified citadel in Plaza del Parque is this original vegetarian, vegan and raw food gem that's also inexpensively priced. There's raw food and salads, a great lasagna, tasty mushroom croquettes and a quinoa burger to die for. It's got a chilled Ibiza vibe, eclectic furniture and a warm and welcoming atmosphere – what more could you want. Well, one of their delicious juices for a start!

This is not strictly a veggie restaurant as it offers a meat dish and on Fridays fish.

BioKarma, San Antonio

A small place and one from which much love emanates. Everything is prepared from scratch and is both organic and vegan, plus they even make their own spelt bread. People come mainly for a take-away and in summer it's open at lunchtimes and in the evenings. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of their delicious vegan wraps and it's well worth the trip into San Antonio's back streets to try this gorgeous fare.

Aubergine, San Miguel

A chic restored farmhouse turned into a gorgeous restaurant. It's light and airy by day and makes a lovely romantic evening setting too. Vegetables literally travel from their garden and cooked in their kitchen – how fresh is that? Try the caramelised pumpkin salad with feta and thyme, the aubergine mille feuille of the quinoa risotto. There are meat dishes here and one with seafood, but vegetables are king in this place. This is a great restaurant that you can take your meat eaters to too, though maybe you should try to get them on one of the vegetarian ones?

Vegi, Santa Eulalia

People who come here say their burgers, made with millet, lentils, carrots and potatoes, are the best in the world. Their “energy plus” croquettes are made with flax seeds and nuts and their trufa sandwich takes delicious grilled vegetables and douses them in truffle oil – great veggie indulgence. They also have a filled pizza/brioche with different cheese or vegetable fillings. The midday €8 fixed-price menu includes a fresh juice and is your value veggie meal deal.
