The festival of Santa Eulalia

Friday is family fun day!

The festival of Santa Eulalia is in full swing already with a programme of events that runs until March. There's a mix of music, local traditions and lots of local cuisine with plenty of things for children.

The Carnival Parade is today, so make sure you get out onto the streets for a taste of the colour and animation and bright and beautiful costumes that make up this display of island spirit. The parade starts at 5.30pm in Calle San Jaime and there's music and wine in the streets later on.

Santa Eulalia day (El Dia de Santa Eulalia) is Friday 12 February and starts, as is tradition, with a solemn mass in the pretty Puig de Missa church on the hill just outside the town at 11am. Then at 1pm in Plaza de España there is a display of traditional dancing by the Es Broll group as well as some live music. At the Sala de Exposiciones there's a Youth Olympics between 4pm and 9pm where local kids get to compete and win prizes, so get on over for a grand sporting display.

On Saturday 13 February from 9pm there's a big 70's party with DJ Ralph in Plaza España in the centre followed by the hippy-inspired ‘Flower Powered' event in Punt Jove, where you can win more prizes in a costume competition, plus there's body painting and lots of “surprises” and entrance is completely free.

The Palacio de Congresos in the centre of town will be host to the festival concert performed by the Santa Eulalia Municipal Band. The gig is on 20 February at 8pm and ideal for those wanting some soothing symphonic sounds.

There's a full programme of events here in Spanish, with timings and locations for everything up to the end of the festival – we're sure you'll find something in it for you.
