Ibiza's August Visitors

If you visit Ibiza in August you'll notice that you're sharing the island

If you visit Ibiza in August you'll notice that you're sharing the island with rather a lot of people. The passenger statistics for Ibiza airport have just been released and show that the season's busiest month saw almost 435,000 people arriving by air. That's a 16% increase on the 375,000 that arrived in August 2006. The figures actually show the number of tourists arriving on the island and do not include the numbers of local people travelling back here.
Nearly 1.5 million visitors in total have arrived here in the first 8 months of the year – the Brits are the most numerous, closely followed by the Spanish - and that's just by plane, many more will have arrived on the many ferries from the mainland and other islands. You'd think that with these numbers and occupancy rates in August of 95 to 100% that the hoteliers would be cock-a-hoop.
They say that the average length of stay in their establishments has reduced over the years. Now the average period of accommodation is 9 or 10 days and not the fortnight of yesteryear. Oh well, you can't have everything.....
