'There are lies, damn lies, and statistics,' Benjamin Disraeli once said. What would he have made of the figures released by national bank

'There are lies, damn lies, and statistics,' Benjamin Disraeli once said. What would he have made of the figures released by national bank ‘La Caixa’ and the local police in two different surveys this week?

The results show that the 107,394 inhabitants of Ibiza and Formentera have 52,408 telephones and 95,401 vehicles - that's half a phone and almost a car each! Meanwhile, police figures for January to June show that of the 3,837 motoring offences in Ibiza town 1,231 were committed in June.

Our Spotlight statistician has examined the figures and computed that the hotter the weather gets, the more traffic offences there are!

So please be extra careful driving in August.
