Christmas market magic

Ibiza does markets well, in fact very well – from giftware to second hand and all points in between. Here we give you information on a selection of markets that are running this Christmas on the island. Many run till January so if you are spending your Christmas here, there’s no excuse not to get presents for your mates, your significant other or your family. So let’s dive in…

International Christmas Market, Vara de Rey, Ibiza Town

One of the longest established and now at its 26th edition, this market in Vara de Rey is the heart of Christmas in Ibiza Town. People travel from across the island to see the huge tree and pretty lighted Christmas decorations. Here, you’ll get a host of stalls selling a big variety of things from clothes and jewellery to Christmas decorations and there’s plenty of fun and games for everyone. There’s also a good manner of food stalls and you can choose from churros, hot dogs and local products like sobrasada sausage with a small glass of wine for around €1.

Atzaró Christmas market

Atzaró has several markets in the run up to Christmas - great for last minute present shopping. The market runs from 11am to 6pm from 20-23 December, with the final one on Sunday 27 December. On the 23rd, there’s a special event with live music and some great food. This day of the market features works from local artisans and producers with many items made on the island. This agroturismo is blessed with amazing views of the countryside and sea and its stunning grounds make for a very pretty setting for this lovely market.

International Night Christmas Market, Calle de la Virgen, Old Town

An alternative market in the Old Town, and in its second year, it is supported by local bar and shop owners, some of whom come from across Europe. This means the market is more European in flavour for presents and gifts. You can get food from the bars and there's street food, so expect a varied selection. The old low-rise white-painted buildings make for a pretty setting and the market revives an area that during winter can be quite quiet. The first event starts with the White Night on the 4 and 5 December, it will be held on every Friday and Saturday in December from 5pm to midnight. There’s even a Holiday Market on 25 and 26 December, so you don’t have to stay in.

Las Dalias Christmas Market

Las Dalias is the market that never closes. During the winter the 30-year old market is open only on Saturdays with extra dates for Christmas. You can expect to find 50 Christmas stalls selling a mix of Christmassy gifts, plus clothing, accessories, antiques and exotic hand-crafted pieces. Get yourself some churros and mulled wine to wander round with. There’s Christmas cakes and carols being sung, live music and a children’s area. The restaurant has both a set menu and a “Happy Tapas” one. Monday to Friday it’s open from 5pm to 10pm, then on Saturdays its open all day and on Sundays from 3pm to 10pm. So many chances to go, so you really won't miss out.

Babylon Beach Xmas Fayre and Santa’s Grotto, Santa Eulalia

Who could resist a two in one and it’s coming quite soon on 12 December? Starting from 1pm, here you get to sample some wines and scoff some sweet treats, as the kids get to say hello to Santa and see if their wishes come true. There will be stalls selling Christmas gifts and ones for all occasions and a good selection of clothing. There’s also a children’s play area here, so when they’ve put in their order for presents they can still have a play. Babylon Beach is a small and nicely formed beach club and its right next to the sea. There’s a Christmas lunch the next day with live music too, so you can get to sample some of their great organic food.

Zoo Ibiza Christmas Market, Playground Ibiza, Benimussa Park

It’s a great celebratory way to kick of Christmas.
